Hi guys

So the missus got a Canon 350d for free from work, as they were getting rid of the old camera's. She also got two Nikon F3's ( I think ).

So this got my attention and I went through all the buttons and stuff on the Canon to figure out what all the buttons do and mean. Also watched some online beginners tutorials. Then I went ballistic with it.

Here is some of my best first pics I took:

Good grief man!
A free 350D?! Lucky!

But more than that - 2 Nikon F3's?? Those are classic original Nikon models. They were the first of the Nikon professional SLR range that have the (now) signature Red Stripe on them. These days you don't get a Nikon without the Red Stripe on the grip. The F3 started that trend, with Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro who got his hands on it and did the styling. Was also the first of the Nikon F-series cameras to have Aperature-Priority Automation, meaning you set the Aperature you want and the camera chose the correct shutter speed to match.

What do you plan to do with them?

Yea read up on the F3 and about the Aperture. Nice to know you got one of the first camera's to do automation on the Aperture.

Going to use them what else! We got like 20 films with it as well and lucky enough to get 100 batteries with it as well.

So, Jealousy is a sin, but I promise I'll repent later.

What lenses you got/going to put on the F3?
If I remember correctly, F-mount SLR and new digital SLR lenses aren't interchangeable, unless you get an adaptor.

Like the title reads I'm still an absolute n00b to this, but got, I think, normal 51mm (?) lenses and then one lekker big one.

Yea I tried to see if the big will fit on the 350D, :whistling:, but doesn't/don't.

Will take a pic of the F3's and the lence tonight and post them.

They are still in excellent condition.

First off, the 350D and F3's won't be interchangeable, being different brands (Nikon v Canon).
But even Nikon modern SLR lenses wouldn't be usable on the F3's F-mount.
Still, you got yourself 2 lenses with the F3 - you'll be able to do plenty with them.
Static lenses are apparently a great way to learn. I'm just too lazy and scared to try a fixed-lens :)

Look forward to those pics!

More important than all that. Where does your wife work that they chuck away those type of camera's?

She works for a publishing company, those magazine's that tell you how to make a R1 million before you 30.

Oh man... those photos bring back memories.
Memories of being a little girl barely able to hold my dad's camera but being fascinated nonetheless. And that dial... ahhh. I remember those dials. And the film lever. I love the feeling of that lever! Winding to the next photo... Looking through the viewfinder. Damn....

That's some nice glass you've got there too. You'll get some brilliant photographs from those. Even though I'm a massive fan of digital, I can't deny the beauty and history and craftsmanship that went into those gorgeous devices.
I'm feeling all nostalgic now. I want to go visit my dad and dig out his old SLR. It even has one of those body-moulded leather cases with the little clips that attach it to the body of the camera itself at the tags on either end.
