In CT i can pickup a celeron + mobo + onboard vga + 256 ram + 40g hd + cdrw + case for R1500... and this is from a retail channel. was hoping there'd be something like this.

Yeah you can pick up something like that. But I can guarantee the graphics will be so bad, they'll barely handle Freecell with animation on. It won't be proper 3D VGA, or it'll be 7yr old VGA. He needs to spend closer to the region of R3000 in order to be able to browse, and play basic 3D games at any sane level. That excludes OS and monitor. And that's a pretty crappy machine

Yeah You can get what you pay for. Friends of mine also thought they could do better buying these packaged PC's now they cannot play the games they want. Simms, NFS, etc. Be my geust let them try it.

Case R200
Board all in R500
Ram R300
Celeron R300
Hdrive R300
Keyboard and mouse R55
Screen R500
Dvd rom 75-150
Stiffy 35-50
EXCLUDING windows!
That for a minimal "cheap" low budget system that can hardly do any gaming? What will you get for R1500.00 old Pentium II

At Sahara the cost for minimal pre build system is R1500.00 excluding screen and software add 10% and vat for cash and then buy Windoze and screen ans see the price now! This system will hardly play simms. It needs a proper 3D VGA card. Ask my kids they can tell you all about it!

Beware what you buy. You will throw R1500.oo in the water. Use that as a start to a better system rather! Only IMHO!

Open source Linux windowz yes! Just saw a program on TV where in USA an volunteer group recovers old PC's, load and configure open source and then donate them to poor. Every 6th PC the volunteers build is theirs. Nimble Idea! I guess in South Africa every 6th one will prolly be the best one!:D
