Think the price is referring to the CPU

You got too much money.

I would have gone for the DFI Board.

you should be able to build it for half that price... maybe not all the brand names, but who gives a toss 'bout that as long as it performs

Havn't done anything yet just needing some input on performance and prices or alternative places to get individual compontents etc.

Thanks for the interest so far!

This is the only thing I'd change, assuming that this will be a gaming PC. If so rather get a normal Logitech keyboard and get yourself a Logitech G5 mouse or if you're lefthanded a Razor Laser mouse.

Also if you're going to overclock go with the DFI. Otherwise the ASUS will do very nicely. I've got the one you're looking at and I haven't had any problems so far.

Why go for a whole PC of top of the range components. You'll kick yourself in 3 months when the retail value drops from R23 000 to R18 000, as the processor price will probably drop a grand, the board may come in a bit cheaper, 250GB HD price may drop, Even the graphics card will probably drop half a G within 3 months as well. Do you really need a R250 120mm fan. Case and power supply totalling R2673. Are you going to put this thing on display somewhere. A decent case with 530W power supply should set you back no more than R1500. That case just has a huge number of bays, for hard drives and opticals. You don't have any optical, and 1 whole hard drive. What the point of that case. You can save quite a bit there, without any loss to your gaming ability. If I had that type of cash, I'd rather pump it into performance. Can keep the proc, but I'd get a smaller chassis, and use the saved cash to by a second graphics card. Then you can actually use the SLI functionality on that R2000 board. You're buying a R3000 19" LCD, why??? It only goes up to 1280x1024. Buy a CRT, better resolution, at decent refresh rates, improves those gaming visuals. And SLI 7900GTX will look super smooth on a 19" CRT at 1600x1200@75HZ. And that'll be half the price of the LCD. Still not convinced on a R5000 CPU either, but that's my opinion, not yours.

graviti i fully agree with you man

get a chenbro gaming bomb and buy a sep 500w power supply
stock cooling is fine if your not going to overclock

i agree on the monitor as well (21" crt monitor much less)

I fitted out a P180 case for my Nephew with the Asus Nf4 Board.
Very nice case. Had a lot of fun building that set-up.
Edit. (P180 door is a bit flimsy and if it breaks can you get parts for it)

Three things I don't compromise with.
Case, PSU and Motherboard.
I like the best here.
I feel that if you have a good basic shell of the P180 Case, Antec PSU and Asus Motherboard, the rest can always be added as you go along.
The DFI boards(Proton) are more overclockable as Toxin stated.
Perhaps look at that range?
Some of those components like the CPU are very expensive. R5000!
CPU resellers offer similar prices so not sure here.
OCZ Ram(Person of DotComputers) is a bit cheaper than Corsair and good quality.
You won't need fans with Leds in a P180 case. Use 120mm Stealth Fans.
The case comes with two, I think? You will need 4 in total.

I agree with most of what you said except this:

Of all your componants your PSU is probably the most overlooked one. A cheap one can sometimes do more harm than good.

Also, of all the componants you can get your PSU and box are the most future proof. If you start of with a decent PSU and box you don't need to change it for a couple future upgrades. So rather spend a little more cash now and get a really decent box and PSU and save in the long run.

But like killa says rather wait for the next gen CPUs if you're gonna spend that much cash. Most of the componants will be cheaper than as well.

A) Wait for the new parts to come out (AM2 and Intel Conroe)

B) When the new parts come out, don't go for the best. (i.e. if new parts weren't coming out, I'd choose a 4400+ over a 4800+ anyday)

C) There is better "gaming" RAM such as Mushkin - contact (I think) Trapnal or Syndicate on the Systemshock forums (www.systemshock.co.za)

D) Agree with Toxin on the mouse. You might want to invest in a Logitech G15 keyboard, although that is just a nice novelty to have.

E) Wait for DirectX10 cards for Vista. You won't regret it (just look at the MS Crysis video at E3)

F) The money you saved with the processor can go towards a Z5500 surround sound system :p

You guys are quick, thorough and honest thank you for all the advice keep it coming!

Im actually wanting 2 machines and to be honest im impatient cause i've been struggling along with a piece of junk for the last year and a half. Is there a motherboard available that will accomodate both X2 and AM2 processors and RAM DDR400 and DDR2?

If so i could at least get one till things settle down then upgrade the first when getting the second.

<EDIT> Did some research prophecy have a few AM2 motherboards and seen very specific as usual. Prices on the AM2 cpu's seem relatively similar to 939 though.

Nother thing is a Phisics processor worth it?
