New phone advice

Hi all,

I am in need of a new phone. My S3 is almost 4 years old now and isn't keeping up anymore.

I was thinking of the Nexus 6P purely for the vanilla Android experience as I don't need bloatware and manufacturer apps. Also Orange ZA has reduced the prices recently. (Although they'll probably push them up again after they get new stock.)

I have heard the 6P can get a bit warm as it has the same CPU and/or GPU as the Sony Z5 which has had heating issues?

Does anyone have a 6P device that can comment?

I have looked at other options but nothing else has stood out apart from the OnePlus3 but I don't want to go the import route.

Thanks

Yeah what budget? I got the Redmi Note 2 with a powerbank and fitness tracker for 3.8k because I didn't want to spend 7k-10k on a phone. Also note it's Nexus season and the new nexii is coming out soon (this week sometime).

Got mine at Takealot on special for 2.5k, nice cover for another R100. Big improvement coming from an S3 mini. Done with spending insane amounts for a phone.

A 3310 is an improvement over the S3 mini. Pure crap.

I kind of agree, the s3 mini was a terrible device, people wanted a smaller phone and there were no alternatives yet. the S3 was possibly the worst phone samsung brought out in its Android history, and the mini was not even as good as the s2.

but back on topic, OP, as has been said it is nexus season so the new device will drop the price of old devices. take that into account.

the best phone on the market right now is the 1+1 3. no contest really, so if that is an option and the importing is the only issue maybe look into that still.

if I were to take a new device right now I would get the P9. its a solid device at a good price with a lot of support locally.
next up I would most likly get an LG G4 (what I currently have) as nothing other than the one plus one 3 has impressed me more than the G4 I already have.

Budget is about R7000. I initially didn't want to spend too much but having caught up with the price of phones it seems that's what you pay for anything decent. I thought the price of the S5 would have dropped but I see many cases where an S6 is cheaper.

I always root my devices and at some stage will put custom firmware on it. That's why I was leaning more towards the 6P until I heard about the heating issues. I would have gone for the OnePlus 3 if it was available here. I'm too wary of importing in case something goes wrong.

The P9 sounds great but is a bit too expensive at the moment.

I did hear the new Nexus is due for release soon. I suppose I will wait and see if the 6P pricing will start to drop.

I say wait until new nexus comes out. See if you like that and can afford it, then make a decision based on that.

ZTE Axon 7, OnePlus 3, Alcatel Idol 4s. Or get budget buy with Wileyfox Swift or Motorola G4.

Used a 6p for a while and the heating was never a problem, my z5 and z5 premium both got much hotter but also never became a problem.
The 6p used a different 810chipset if I remember correctly. The only reason I sold mine was the 32gig memory was not enough for me and needed something with sd slot.
