So I noticed Vodacom has cut the prices of it's prepaid bundles... I'm on Cell C and where I live, the signal is pretty weak and inconsistent. Anywhere else it's great. I just wanna ask if you guys think it's worth moving to Vodacom since where I live the Cell C signal is inconsistent?

Might be, Vodacom prepaid is R1.20 per minute as compared to Cell C's R0.99 per minute.

Both of those are per second billing.

The main feature that keeps me to Vodacom is the SMS roaming, I use that when overseas, then I can still do banking, etc.

Roaming overseas is a huge no-no, I always buy local sims, but the Vodacom SMS roaming helps me to keep in touch.

BTW, I use a Samsung S4 Mini Dual sim, the second sim is Cell C in the RSA, and a local sim when I travel.

I don't see nothing cheap on those prices to be honest..... 30Day expiry data bundle with no extra bonus or promotional data.

These are the prices:

R9 = 15MB
R12 = 30MB
R29 = 100MB
R59 = 250MB
R99 = 500MB
R149 = 1GB
R249 = 2GB
R299 = 3GB
R399 = 5GB
R599 = 10GB
R999 = 20GB

No special data or expiry dates. You get that data for that rand value and it expires after 30 days if you used it or not.

MTN atleast gives you 50% extra promo data and their data last min 60 days or if you buy a bundle again then it can last forever.
Cellc is also cheaper on the small bundles and voice calls.

Just to be clear, the prices are not actually 'new'. All Vodacom did was in fact to make their 'promotional' prices (which have been available for ages) permanent, thereby replacing their 'standard' prices. It seems an odd decision given (a) the general agreement that growth for the cellular providers lies mainly in data and (b) Vodacom is still far and away the most expensive (prepaid) data provider.

So essentially it's a bad idea?

Well, these are still not great prices when you compare how much better you can do with other providers. In fact they actually represent a slight step backwards for Vodacom in some ways as has already been pointed out, because where their 'standard' data bundles could be stretched over two months, now they are only valid for 30 days.

But if as so often happens the Vodacom data signal is the best in your area and you want SA-wide coverage, then you are going to have to accept the price hit.

This data prices are obviously a joke. Can someone please post a table with the 3 operators next to each other. I want to send it to Vodacom. Perhaps they will understand why their customer database is not increasing in SA:D
