New rules for all co.za websites and ISPs during coronavirus outbreak

They did order,

webmasters to add a landing page. Funny though, the company which 'developed' the content displayed on sacoronavirus.co.za link to themselves below. Got to love those crawlers.

Also, they add "All Rights Reserved", but there is no ownership indicated :X3: ECT Act, HELLO!?
Mmmm I am 98% sure the owner of that site is a MyBB resident - i've seent that name here before.

Not to mention the many many South African websites that use .com, .biz, etc domains and don't even use .co.za domains.

Dear Government .. Due to the mass exodus of skilled developers leaving the country, the 16 developers left in ZA are unable to change a gazillionty and twelve websites before the lockdown. Please note, we have managed a non techincal solution where we have asked all south africans to stick a postit note with the web url in the top right corner of their screen.

Interesting, I did the vaguest amount of digging...

The developer of the site is also a used car dealer, based on Cellphone number...

Yup, this wasn’t very well thought out.... and to impose a law that’s ambiguous, technically incorrect and within such short notice in a time when most staff are off is irresponsible.

by when must these changes be done, until when, and what if you don’t have them done etc etc
Absolutely normal for the Department of Communications ----- They have and never have had a clue about how to do anything.

Can I have a photoshopped image of the minister of communications engaged in sexual congress with a goat as the landing page on my website? With a link to sacoronafucktardwhatever.co.za as well if it pleases her majesty?

Squirrel should brief his ministers and tell them to calm the fck down.
All of them want to think up new rules now.
They're welcome to make suggestions, but by making all these new rules they'll will end up with a crap-load of outlaws.

I have 217 co.za sites hosted and maintained from both dev and ops ends. How in the fsck do they expect us to do this crap? My registrar just messaged me to check if it was some elaborate hoax. None of my clients are going to pay me for this work and I just do not have the capacity to do this. Lunatics...

Just bill the Dept of Communications..

When they don't pay, then start attaching assets :D

**EDIT**

Actually, I made that statement entirely in jest... but its actually what needs to happen. All the companies who hold .co.za websites and maintain them need to forward the Dept of Communications and est for the work required and ask when they will pay for the work.

Just ignore it and carry on as per usual?

I am putting together an estimate now. I will hire help if they bite. Not trying to milk the situation but I cannot foot the bill for this sort of thing.

Attach what Assets? That warehouse full of useless decoders?

Just for the hell of it, I decided to read the regulations, as well as the ECTA as referenced.

Stella is monumentally overstepping her boundaries from what I can tell. The zaDNA seem to have no legal authority to demand content of any kind be placed on pages under the .za domain space.

Hell even on the zaDNA main page they state the following
As the Authority, .ZADNA is mandated to administer and manage the .ZA domain name space. ZADNA does not register .za domain names or get involved in matters regarding the content of .za websites
