New standards for wall sockets in South Africa

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has clarified the role of switches on electrical wall sockets in a recent amendment to the South African standard for plugs and sockets.

It explained that either all of the sockets need to be switched, or they must all be unswitched. You are not allowed to have a mix where some sockets have switches while others do not.

What has been the issue for the previous plugs? Sounds like a bunch of people have sweet fakol to and debate plugs and switches.

Standby power, also called vampire power, vampire draw, phantom load, ghost load or leaking electricity is a real issue.

Need method to switch off the USB charger built into the wall plug to prevent loss.

IMHO, having a built-in USB charger is not a good idea as USB standards are evolving (eg fast charging).
You better off with a standalone USB charger.

There aren't any more important issues to debate.

I don't like that 2 pin American 541t. They can't handle the current and they are a fire hazard. Drop that idea. What were they thinking when they adopted that junk?
