You must be new around here, or simply blind to OP's intense dislike/constant trolling of the GT86/BRZ.

Stranger still sad :'(
Take your mom's hairdryer and stick it under the hood, it will sound like you've got a turbo.

Someone earlier said look at the X-trail, would also recommend this. At 380k you can almost get full house 4x4

Rental Polo. For R400k, I'm pretty sure you can rent it for a while. That'll go where no other SUV will dare.

She doesn't like Nissan. Neither do I. First car was a Nissan and they stole my wallet out of the car when it was taken for a service. My dad didn't know it was in the center arm rest, reckoned he did me a favor and took it in. Came out sans-wallet.

Even though we found discarded cards in the car with potential fingerprints of the culprit, the Centurion dealership didn't give a hoot. Not supporting them again :\

While the Tiguan is in for service, we have a Rental polo :p
You want to hear the kicker. The Tiguan has been in for service since 21 May. WTF Volkswagen...

Oh NO!!
Don't touch a Forester!! You will regret it!!

Agree. Saw a newish Forester for R250k so resale is crap.

Go Toyota Fortuner. Don't think you want to br taking a Merc/Bm offroad.

So wife is looking at getting a new car. She constantly buys plants and has to drive on gravel and dirt roads sometimes so she wants an SUV.

Currently she drives a Tiguan, which we both thought was good, but the service from VW dealership close to us was crap. Not Peugeot crap, but not good enough. It's warranty is ending so we'll be getting rid of it and probably won't go VW again.

So as far as service goes, won't consider French of any manufacturer that's known to be dodgy in that department. I thought BMW, Mercedes, Honda or Subaru. Also need leather seats cause we have a messy baby and I don't want to clean fabric.

She likes the new Forester and given our positive experience with the brand, that's currently top of the list. Goes for R385K. Also considering the Merc GLA at R430K, and the new BMW X1, which I believe is launching Oct. She thought the CR-V was okay, but wasn't sold on it's capability vs the Subaru. I tend to agree.

Is there any reason why one would want to take the Merc or BMW and not the Subaru? We'll go for test drives over the weekend, but if you have any pointers on what to look out for would appreciate it.

Xtrail. Do it! :p

I thought about the Forester. It's a great 4x4, just a little bare bones, but definitely was a contender.

Please tell me what is "bare bones" about the Forester. Have you even seen the latest one?

What amazes me is that most of the anti Forester crowd still think that it hasn't changed since 2007.
