It would also kill the cig market.. speaking of which, if they anything to go by, greed says they will yield less tax than they should if legalized because South Africans are South Africans

Why do 'clever south africans' always have to compare south africa to a first world country like America? Seems there are indeed people who refuse to accept SA's decline.

While living costs are extremely low in the US and they can afford this, south africa is a total different matter. Raise taxes on weed and I simply buy from the illicit market. The same with cigarettes. Not that I support the illicit market, but I buy where it is the cheapest.

This is a tone deaf idea from idiots who clearly have no idea what is going on in SA and is not in touch with reality.

Oh wow Ettiene Retief, you're only a decade behind pretty much everyone who has a clue...

Because they live in a fantasy world fuelled by the American TV and American drivel on TV and want to live like Americans, but can't afford to move there nor does the emigration policy of the US help matters either.

I really don't understand why this hasn't been implemented yet.

It's a win for the people of the country, a win for the state. Everybody wins.

Because ANC.

Viva!
Yea but I mean... if there's one thing the ANC loves more than anything it's free money. This is free money.

Not doing this runs contrary to everything the ANC is. I really don't get it.

I remember that Parliament got ordered by the courts to have Cannabis legislation ready by November 2020 (I may be inaccurate).

I vaguely remember something like that now that you mention it. Was that that Bill for cannabis for private purposes?

Good memory.

Yeah it was, and that was passed from what I know, but it very carefully avoids the idea of legalising the use of cannabis, it just largely decriminalises it for personal use up to a certain level.

As much as the ANC love free money, they're also totally steeped in backwards "War on Drugs" and puritanical views.. They would ban alcohol, smokes and anything "fun" if they had half a chance.

The licences to enter production are regulated. Makes you think about if there are any gatekeepers and who these gatekeepers are and why they wouldn't want this tax implemented.... hmmmm......

Right here in Cape Town, the largest cannabis facility in Africa. There's a few of these big boys running massive operations, no doubt some government piggies taking in fat figures for the very exclusive licenses.

Cannsun, founded in 2017, is Africa’s largest commercial medicinal cannabis facility. The company was founded in Atlantis in the Western Cape province by Pholoso Malatji and Leondios Caldis.
