New Telkom chairman warns government

Anyone know what Roy Kruger has ever achieved before this position? I am trying to understand his advice, not so much on trying to cut staff at Telkom (although I don't see how this is really going to do much other than make their service worse), but more in regard to his previous strange comments.

And Kruger says "fire 75% of the payroll". This is what was previously done in order to increase profits, profits which were then taken out of the company as dividend for the great performance which created a huge profit ...

So one must agree. What Telkom needs doing is to fire three quarters of the staff, cancel all maintenance while increasing prices by 200%. This would make Telkom very profitable.

Hi bekdik.

We joined MyADSL in the same year I notice.
Even our activism in thousands if not millions of threads here did not reach the ears of the sleepy behemoth of Telkom, they just stumbled forth.
What a bunch of pig-headed fools, did they ever listen to any of the advice given over the years from all quarters. All that Telkom's history tells me, never ever let Government nationalise/privatise anything, no matter how good the assets, it will turn into mush.

So much could have been done, but the rot started around 1998 with the likes of Jay and the invitation of SBC to our shores. What a giant royal balls-up indeed. What goes around comes around, I read Government wants to take Telkom back. Government + (Privatise and/or Nationalise) = Balls-up.
No Government can keep up with technological advances, at least ours cannot, so why do they continue to flog this horse, rather admit they messed up, take some of the advice the industry has given and lets move on. How many more years must we be kept in the dark ages of technology, it is obvious Telkom is being run like a Government Department (read my signature) and they haven't a clue of what to do.

Same old, same old, the more things change the more they stay the same. Sigh.

BTTB.

"Obviously, massive retrenchment by a partly owned state entity in the build-up to the ANC elective conference in Mangaung at the end of the year or the national election in 2014 could be seriously damaging for the ANC."

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh... -_- I guess one day we'll have a country and not a banana republic, but we're not out of the plantation yet.

they going to slap him and his testicular fortitude hard...

I share your sentiment 100%

I have just given up hope! Sometimes it better to let things around you burn to the ground so that we can rebuild out of the ashes of past, present and future failures.

There is just no way that the current ANC including its members and the next 20+ years or so are going to do anything meaningful or worthwhile for the Telecoms industry including Telkom in the near the future. They just lack the overall competence, vision and ethical drive to achieve any success in the Telecoms space. Its beyond ludicrous!

big talk Mr Mabuza but follow it up with action please. Telkom shareholders need to realise true value of their share.
