Please note that these are wholesale prices and exclude VAT, so the final retail pricing will be higher.

It seems that the only people who would be happy with this pricing are those who use little bandwidth per month... i.e. Less that 3G.

For those people who use ADSL for what it was intended for ("Abusers" as termed by Telkom), this prices will certainly be unacceptable. The funniest thing is: Telkom will only give discount from 100GB onwards!!! That's not all, it starts from a mere 2% discount!!!

You have to admit, Telkom really knows how to squeeze the market dry. Well, what's left of the market anyway.

You must understand that those prices for usage are not based on individual usage, but realm-wide usage (ie. combined usage for all users that a specific ISP may have). Bandwidth has always been priced in the way that the more you use, the cheaper it gets per GB, one can argue this is because you are buying in bulk.

100GB is only 3 and a bit 30GB accounts, which is nothing, same with 500GB... what I'm interested in is why there are no provisions for usage above numerous TB, which is what I'm sure most ISP's are using at the moment.

so now they offer a discount at over 100GB, but if i were to say use 100GB, i would be "abusing" the system,so me and my 5 friends with our 100GB accounts would effetively bring the whole of adsl in SA to a standstill becuase the 5 of us would use all the bandwidth! Where's your math telkom?

Telkom are laughing. Every gigabyte of local traffic a user generates costs Telkom next to nothing, BUT you still pay Telkom's "special" SAT3 price all the same.

Local content producers are going to suffer big time.

then again if they hire CEO's without telecoms experience, what does it say about everyone else with lesser positions in the company? it's like the gorilla's have escaped their cage and taken over the zoo

Well.. i think the people lesser down know more than the people higher up.. Telkom does have a great setup, but thats definitely not due to Sizwe telling them what to do.. the people lower down are the ones who are the machine that makes Telkom tick, they are the ones who gets things fixed.. dunno who the poephol was who reversed into the fibre line a couple months back, but sure as hell he's the arse-end of many a joke within Telkom

The rank in Telkom is inversely proportional to the level of knowledge and skill.

I reckon though that the new CEO will bring a breath of fresh air to the stagnant incumbent. If prices are top of mind he will save many a Telkom customer.
