Hi all
:)
I played a few weeks of tennis when I was 13, but then I stopped lessons after going to High school. I really love the game and I'm thinking of getting like 2 or 3 weeks of lessons before going on holiday and then moving to Stellenbosch for University studies as I'm at the end of matric and in my final exams.
Do you think it's worth the trouble or should I only start playing again in Stellenbosch?

take up squash.....its more active and the varsity tours are WAAAY better...

but seriously, the lessons would probably be a waste of time...especially since you are going on holiday afterwards...

I would start getting lessons, after a few weeks of playing and knocking around at varsity. Dont always go for the most expensive coach either, generally unless you are at an advanced level, the average coach will be teaching you similar things to the advanced one, just at a lower rate.

I know, i do coaching, and i teach the exact same as the pro's, when it gets to a certain level, i tell my student to move on and point them in the right direction

I also like squash :)

Only thing is, that after ten years of playing. you'll find it hurts your knees a bit.

This is often the fault of poor squash court flooring rather than the sport itself. This we have experienced first hand at a club on the South Coast – all the guys had injuries, and after playing there for two months both my knees and Achilles was messed up. If you still play, get another club – soon!

Back to the Olympics – I think handball and table tennis look like regal sports in comparison with synchronized swimming and the like. What next??

I cant stress good shoes enough, i always laugh at these clowns who buy 1200 rand racquets then run around in normal shoes...If you do decide to get serious i suggest forking out for top of the range shoes..u will never regret it..

Indeed, i have played on some courts where it feels like concrete, the flooring is cheap and unsprung. Could feel my shin splints and stress fractures coming back after 45 minutes of play...

Yeah, the olympic thing is a joke, i know they are removing some of those sports though....I know squash is not the easiest spectator sport, but surely its more noteworthy than some of the stuff out there...but i could be saying this purely because i think squash is the greatest sport ever?

Sunshine?????i am a computer dork, i am allergic to sunshine....but i agree, there is something nice about running around outside....i guess squash cant have everything...
