All new tyres should be driven gently for the first 200 km or so - helps them seat correctly and then wear correctly later on. Tyres that aren't bedded in correctly will need balancing within a couple of thousand km.

When you say gently; do you mean not more than 80? No harsh braking? Things like that?

In a perfect world, you would be keeping speed to 100 or less and very gentle braking and cornering.

Where do you get this from?

:wtf: You didn't know that??

I have grown up in a motoring and racing family for over 60 years, and that is what we have always done, as well as the people who know anything about tyres, suggest that you do - and don't ask for a friggin link because there probably isn't one!

This just happens by default to most people as within the first week of new tires they still want them to last as long as possible so they drive super gently anyways.

I always drive gently.

There is a difference between going fast and going like an idiot imo.

I love speed and do so every day (on private roads of course) but there is no point in redlining the car between stops and overheating your brakes and spinning up cold tires.

Yes Fazda, as normal, you are 100% correct.

There are a lot of links about this subject, Continental Technical Databook
2013 · 2014
is just one good example. See page three.

It also makes a good reference for other tyre questions.

These people should know best I think. :whistling:

Most owner manuals also call for running in of tyres Volkswagen as example

I have to replace my Captiva 235/55/r18 tyres. Crap expensive. Looking at buying online either Achilles, or GT Radial. Going at R1645 per tyre. Both brand new tyres.

Would you consider buying second hand set with 90% tread?

The normal tyres tyre fitters quote you. The Archilles at a fitment place goes for R2200 and Hankooks are like R3 800. Expensive if you have to replace all 4. Thats why I'm going for the ones mentioned and buying online.

Ok, I'm the unlucky fool that need to pay 5.5k per tyre.
What do they say, with big cars comes big responsibility...
