Thanks! I am missing Windows 8 snapping on Yosemite... will give this a go.

I found this ... Cinch...

http://www.irradiatedsoftware.com/cinch/

Cinch gives you simple, mouse-driven window management by defining the left, right, and top edges of your screen as 'hot zones'. Drag a window until the mouse cursor enters one of these zones then drop the window to have it cinch into place. Cinching to the left or right edges of the screen will resize the window to fill exactly half the screen, allowing you to easily compare two windows side-by-side (splitscreen). Cinching to the top edge of the screen will resize the window to fill the entire screen (fullscreen). Dragging a window away from its cinched position will restore the window to its original size.

Works nicely ... $7 purchase tho'.

Best thing I can think of is basic shortcuts because that's where most people get stuck thinking the OS isn't capable of doing something when it's just different.

1. Replace All things CTRL with Command (CMD). So Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V becomes Cmd+C and Cmd+V. Try this default Windows logic first and if that doesn't work continue.

2. Command + Tab = Application Switching, same thing it does in Windows...but it's not Window switching it's Application Switching.

3. Command + ~ = Windows inside Application Switching. Many people don't know this shortcut and complain that the window management system is "mouse intensive" which it is not. So these two commands form an expanded better version of what Alt+Tab does in Windows.

4. Apple + Shift + H = Home folder in Finder. Apple + Shift + A = Applications Folder. Apple + Shift + U = Utilities folder etc.

5. Apple + Shift + N = New Folder (when inside finder).

6. Apple + Q = Quit Application. You can also use this while having the screen open in Point 2. So toggle between apps and then while holding command hit Q and that App will close.

7. Enter = Rename

8. Apple + Backspace = Delete

9. Apple + Shift + Backspace = Empty Trash

10. Apple + Space = Spotlight. If you learn to use this you don't need the Dock or anything really. If you know what app you are looking for it's faster to use Spotlight that find it with a mouse.

All I can think of immediately, will add some more as they pop up.

Oh and one more thing.

If you can help yourself DO NOT get Office for Mac.

It's a steaming pile of **** that I can't believe Microsoft have stamped their name on for so long. Seriously take my word for it.

Unless you need pivot tables in Excel just wrap your mind around using Pages, Keynote, Numbers instead. It takes some time but you'll get used to it.

Strangely. I've been moving away from Office for Mac the past year. But Excel is just too darn useful for my purposes to not use it.

The only thing I've really found lacking is pivot tables. Anything else I can live with mostly.

But yeah for proper business use Excel is still king, but for your average home user Numbers is perfect. Just need to adapt your logic.

1. Replace All things CTRL with Command (CMD).
...
2. Command + Tab
...
3. Command + ~
...
4. Apple + Shift + H
...
5. Apple + Shift + N
...
6. Apple + Q

and Command / Apple are synonymous.

Option-Click Elsewhere = move to elsewhere and hide the application from which you came.
Shift-Click minimise = minimise window to dock in slow motion
Option-Click red close window = close all windows in app

In fact, try shift-click in anything for slow-mo effect.

Sorry I'm old school like that.

Still refer it as the "apple" key.

Since I have been on apple i always referred to it as command. Although now that I think about it all the designers called it apple key and wondered what the hell I meant when I said command. And those old ADB keyboards had Cmd on the key.

Yeah but the older keyboards all had the Apple logo.

So when dealing with users we always use to refer to command and then they would go "huh" and we would say "the Apple key" and they would understand so it became the norm to refer to it as such.

Of course then Apple removed it on the newer systems and now I confuse the **** out of people.
