Howzit guy's and ladys,

I've recently been taken by the Xbox platform, due to my sister's bf having one and actually getting a chance to try it out myself. Now i'm wanting to buy for myself. Thing is i've been looking around and there are all kinds of models from the core, pro , elite, super elite, arcade ect. If i understand correctly they are all the same specs wise except for HDD space and the kinect obviously. (please correct me if i'm wrong)

So to the question : Would it be a smarter to go for the arcade which is roughly R1800 and then buy all the accessories (HDD, Extra remotes ect) in the following months instead of forking out R3999 for some call of duty xbox? Are they the same spec wise or not. Basicly can anyone just give me the gizmo on what the dweeb is potting here with all the many different models.

Another thing i heard is that there is a new line of xbox which is most likely to be released next year? If this is true then I don't want to spend a couple of K only to have do so again next year for the newer model/version xbox.

Please feel free to put give your opinion and advice.

Swell thanks guys !

So there are no more arcades, pros, elites and what not, they have been replaced by the newer S or slim consoles. These are all the same specs apart from HDD size.

The accessories are quite expensive, so I'd rather go for a bundle deal if I were you, there are some great specials out there: http://www.takealot.com/gaming/consoles/xbox-360-console-s-250gb-holiday-value-bundle,10801397

The next generation Xbox will most likely launch end of next year, but nothing has been confirmed.

Not sure about a new version, only heard a rumor somewhere, if you a hard core gamer then maybe the hdd space will make a difference, personally I have never had issues with my arcade version but I'm not a serious gamer and only play once a week for couple of hours.

I prefer PC gaming which I know if more expensive but a mouse and keyboard are a plus, nice thing about console is every game works, but they are also pricey to buy.
I have friends who bought the latest and greatest and regret the extra cash spent on larger hdd.

Yep, I never saw the point of a big hard drive either, until MS recently started getting their Games on Demand catalogue sorted out. If you've got a proper internet connection, you can buy a LOT of older and newer games directly from Xbox Live for quite a lot cheaper. I know Batman Arkham City is now going for R169 on there. So the hard drive is starting to play a bigger role now.

The nice thing about a hard drive is that you can install games to it, which makes them load faster.

Swell guys taking all the info in and will do some research. Pitty makro only has the bundle deal until today, unfortunately i don't crap cash so an end month wait is neccessary but i'll keep my eyes peeled and if i come across any awesome deals i'll post it in the other thread with the good deals.

With a software upgrade the Arcades can now take flashdrives up to 8GB as an ext HDD.

Bit more than that on a UK account - ₤19.99... Still, probably less than you'd pay for a 2nd-hand copy so thanks are in order. Busy downloading. :D

No probs, I got Borderlands and Portal 2 for quite cheap as well! I am much impressed! Also it saves you the effort of finding a second hand copy and then buying an online pass (applicable for some games).
