New to Xbox, Please help me to like it

I want to listen to music, either USB or from my network (PC), and when I press back I want the music to continue, not necessarily needed when I'm playing games. I understand you need Plex pass to work on Xbox, is this true?
Xbox has been touted as the home entertainment hub, but for me, coming from Playstation, it is as though Xbox is where Playstation was about 3 years ago, with their music apps and such.
I know it is a gaming console, but surely it needs to do media really well/easy.
Please let me know how to get a proper music app on my Xbox, that will play music while I do other stuff.

don't need plex pass for xbox - think it is free now , if not pay the R50 it is worth it.
it has HDMI passthrough for video - Get AppleTV/Roku/Andoidbox/Shield and run the guide app and use the device for media - I use a roku 3 and when xbox turns on boots straig into roku and when i want to game crag xbox controller and play.

Cortana for voice and IR blaster that is build into xbox to control TV and Home theater system.

definitely not 3 years behind playstation just need to get the correct setup that works for you.

Cool thanks, remember this is my first ever xbox, so it feels really alien. I have a Roku stick that I have no use for, can I plug that into the HDMI In on the back of xbox?
Does Spotify work in SA? Also Cortana says something to the effect it is not compatible in my country...
At least some good news, yesterday I finally enabled HDR on my TV, so Forza looks better.

Yes Roku stick via HDMI input will work

for cortana change your location and spoken to English (US) - does mess around with the store pricing , but i use PC for the store.

I run full vpn from the router , so forget that some things are not available.

Do you need a UK/US account to get the app? Do you then need to switch between your UK and SA account is use it?

There are no regional accounts.

You can simply switch the console region temporarily.

from what I've seen, xbox one has the ability to listen to music in the background while you play games, that was last year's update
