My last bundle which I bought with talking points expired last night so I was looking to see which recurring bundle I should apply to my prepaid line when I came across these. I have never seen the "for 3 months / for 6 months" ones before, only the 12 months ones. When did Vodacom launch those?

Huh. I also don't remember seeing these... Useful. That 500MB as an add on to a smartphone would be nice, but these are probably only available for data devices.

They are available to all prepaid subscribers. I intend going for the 500mb x6 which is great value for R339 once off IMO

They've been around for a while I guess. Noticed the 3/6 months one's about a month and a half ago. The year long ones are pretty old but cheaper by R100

thinking about getting these on either a uchoose flexi contract (looks like the old top up contracts?) or just go prepaid

Now the only think i need to confirm is if your on the uchoose flexi contract can you change to the vodacom tariff plan 79c pm. If this is treated like a normal top up contract then I think I can.

I am thinking of going with the uchoose flexi 150. its R109 per month and comes with R150 airtime. Then i can get 189 minutes per month. + get the 2gb pm for 1399 (116 pm)

So all in R225 per month for 2gb of data and 180 minutes seems to good to be true. Or am i missing something here?

Says not available on Sim Sonke though which is the only package I would use on TM

That is incorrect.

Step 1 : Make sure you are on Telkom more tarrif
Step 2 : Dial *180# ,select data bundles and then select internet starter pack
Step 3 : Choose your monthly allocation and price
Step 4 : dial *180# and change your tariff to Sim Sonke.Your monthly allocation of data will be carried over.

N.b you are only allowed 1 tarrif change per month. So you might spend a month on Telkom more until you can move to sim sonke tarrif.it is worth it though.

After you are finished the year is over and your monthly allocation is expired you will not be able to revert to telkom more via ussd menu. You will have to phone the call centre and request that you are placed on Telkom More tarrif again.Repeat steps for another year of data.

Hope that makes sense.

Those topup contracts from Vodacom are a rip off.Data is expensive and phone calls are R1.80 per min.It is sometimes cheaper to get a phone from FNB and use a prepaid sim. This will be my last contract as prepaid rates are a lot better.

I just going thru the *111# menu,if you are a vodacom topup contract subscriber. There are ways to gain value out of Vodacom’s stupid promotions. It is just a matter of understanding those promotions. They intentionally try to screw you over,so you kinda have to dig thru that *111# menu and figure out what you will benefit from.Prepaid is still the best deal thou.

I liked your work around until this step - having to speak to someone to get the pricing right, even on a once annual basis, is a PITA I refuse to engage in.

It isn't a big deal.I sorted it out for my mom.You phone the call centre request Telkom more and it is done within a day. They even tried phoning mom to make sure she was happy with the tariff change.

uhm did you read my post lol :p

the only reason i want the topup is that you get bonus airtime. The whole point is to change to the 79c per minute tariff on it, and to buy the large data bundle (once off) so I wont have to worry about the R1.80 call rate or data costs. I might be wrong but if i some how ran out of data and need to buy more it would just be at standard prepaid rates. I am not phased about the out of bundle costs since I have the warning set on my phone for when im running out of data.

The 79c tariff is only available on prepaid. You are stuck with R1.80 on the top up contracts.

You will be better off getting a data contract from Vodacom, with a topup option.I.e a data contract that cuts off after your airtime is depleted. It is R80 per gig on a data contract vs R150 on topup&prepaid.

ok so then best route will be to get the 79c prepaid plan and buy the 24gb up front ( R116 pm for 2gb then)

Went into vodacom this week, they claim you can get the 79c per minute promotion on top up. Any truth to this.

Best call network and best price/speed data right there. Pure win.

Where did you source the Duos from?

I highly doubt that, unless there have been changes.

I was using a top up account for voice, and the voice charges were excessive, and couldn't be changed. But this was a year or two ago.

My solution was dual sim phones.

Another solution, if you are on MTN, is the Afrihost Voice & Data offering.
