I upgraded my contract and phone at end April.

I was recommended to change from the old Smart M to the new Smart S+ Top up, based on my usage.
Package has 500MB per month, and my usage was about that, but I was told that I could topup my airtime, sms bundles and data bundles at any time.
So far so good, seemed like Vodacom was now listening to us and allowing us to buy as we use at last.

Just on 4 weeks used, my data is getting low, so off to top up I go. Surprise!
Not only can I not topup with a once off bundle, the choices for monthly recurring bundles start at 1GB!

Call to 082 111, after 10 minutes trying to get agent to understand what I'm trying to do, no, not possible he says..
OK, I ask, what if I buy airtime to the data voucher amount, i.e. R99 airtime to convert for a 500MB bundle?
That will work he tells me, no problem.

Back to the handset I go, *111#, airtime purchase for R99... and, no confirmation.
After ten minutes, an sms to say "your airtime purchase was unsuccessful.

Anybody from Vodacom here to explain why this advertised contract option does not work as advertised???

Thanks,
G.

Have exactly the same problem - also just upgraded to that. And I couldn't buy data through the app or their website.

Walked in to Vodaworld and bought it via USSD - but no sms notification arrived either.

While I'm here, let me just rant..
So my bill doubled, even though it was caused by their systems still not able to process data purchases.
I complained - they sent me an sms to say they loaded 5GB for me and warned me to monitor my data usage.. what about fixing your systems Vodacom? And yes, I didnt need the 5GB because the USSD purchase finally did go thru, with zero sms notification.

You can top up. We cant load once off bundles on top ups and charge it to the account though. You need to either buy data bundle via your online banking or in a store. If you like, PM me your cell number and let me check if our POS verrifies it succesfully.

Thanks Ockie, this is correct. Bundle purchased via banking app arrives immediately, and updates balance correctly.
Just the helpdesk folks don't know how it works.. :whistling:

When my wife got her top up contract a few years back I put R100 into it so she could get minutes or data if she ever ran out. I don't think the money ever expires as most of it is still there. She did once have to buy a small amount of data at the end of a month.

Can someone please advise if telkom freeMe contracts be topped up with freeMe prepaid?
