Prefer the boxy first-gen.
Maybe the more entry-level models will look better.
Looks like this one went through west coast customs.

It's a Ford...essentially.
Could somebody correct me if I am wrong but @OhYeah84 is 100% correct.

Didnt VW and Ford go into partnership with the bakkies? So basically the new VW and new Ford are the same thing, just slap a different logo on it. (Cosmetic differences aside)

Little bit more than just cosmetic (or logo slapping). Whilst the Amarok is now being built by Ford at the Silverton plant, on the same platform as the Ranger, and shares most of the mechanics with the Ranger, the suspension is set up differently (per VW's request, if I recall correctly reading an article somewhere a while ago). VW will also use some of their own engines, but may perhaps borrow some of the Ranger engines for other models.

Doors and fenders will also be unique, and then of course the cosmetics, including interior.

That's correct. Like the X-Class and Nissan Navara!

And how did that go.

This kind of rebadging works well in the low end (think Starlet) but you can't rebadge ordinary stuff and sell it at high end prices.

If the Amarok is significantly higher priced than the Ranger, its going to be more doomed than the X class was.

You underestimate SA's love for the Ranger that currently sell 4 times as many as Navara. If X-Class was based on the Ranger it would be a different story. No?
Nope. The X-Class was very expensive bearing in mind the entry level engine was all Nissan. It wasn't a Merc engine. It was only their R1 million bakkie that was Merc.
So basing the X-Class on the Ranger would mean nothing if you could get the equivalent Ranger (same engine, body, gearbox and drive system) for R200k --> R300k cheaper. Same situation.

The first down was lower and seemed properly planted, they could have done something with the suspension the huge gap at the rear wheel is unsightly.

So yesterday this brand new Ford Amarok almost crashed into me on the N4, must have been a review sample. Kinda wish he did...
A sad, sad day for the once almighty VW.
Probably slipped on its own oil.

Call me old school but I prefer buttons for my climate control - easier to use when on the move.

Since when did the climate control divorce the windshield defrost button and it had to go now live with the light controls

Almost every car in history had these functions together can you imagine you rent an Amarok and trying to figure out the window defroster, car people will get it but i know alot of people that wont get it.
