Hi, so congratulations are in order....i finally decided to get a washing machine!!
however the delivery people refused to turn the tap on and advised me to get a plumber.
To be honest i didn't really understand why , they mentioned something about a cap being on, and mentioned flooding....i guess because it was never open they preferred no to take the risk .

I dont mind getting a plumber but feels a bit stupid to get him just for that....is it best to just get him?
also if the tap is flooding , surely i can just close it again?

Read the manual and do it yourself. It is extremely simple.

Do you know where your water mains "Stop Tap" is? If yes, no problem - proceed. If no, big problem - don't proceed.

Where is your water meter? Should be a tap there on the street.

Also, all washing machines and dishwashers should have their own dedicated tap, look around.

The tap where your washing machine is supposed to connect to, would be one that can open and close, so there is no flooding risk..

Your washing machine manual will contain details on how to connect to the tap.. if you can read, you can do this yourself..

Also, there is very likely four bolts that must be removed before using the machine.. I assume this may have been removed, since you say the delivery guys started the install and then stopped.. it is worth checking though, else you will be buying a new washing machine before you have got your first load of cum socks clean..

Connect a hosepipe to it and point it somewhere, then open it and check the flow. Let it run a minute or so to get sediment and rust out while you're at it.

Also, how have you not had a washing machine for 15 years?

Especially if it's a frontloader. Mine looked like normal hose clips and I didn't remove them at first.

Edit - and I hope it's a front loader.
