Pretty sure the toilets were the culprit - if the domestic flushes four times a day - and we each flush three times - thats already almost 100L

We can't get to the front loaders grey water easily - so didn't have much grey water to fill them with - but now I have multiple 10L canisters in the bathrooms that I fill every morning.

The Day Zero plan would see 75% of the city’s taps being turned off. This excludes commercial areas, hospitals and informal settlements.

some of the worst wastage and they're leaving it on :wtf: Why not have a tap station next to the settlement/s and have it operate exactly the same as the other stations?

iirc under normal conditions they use 3% of the water, and already have so called tap stations

According to the council, the water wastage claims are not supported by measurements. But yes the whole matter could be defused by proper water point management.

It's been really interesting following your water saving mate, you've gone from saving squat to being very water wise. Out of interest what is the total investment so far(shower heads etc)

Only about R800 - the 10L containers being the most expensive. Shower head was R150. I think our domestic has also realized we're serious about water usage as she's started her own collection of grey water for reuse in the garden.

Its going to get quite a bit more expensive as I'm looking at going completely off the grid - want to put in a 5000L tank - but struggling to find the space. (1.8m diameter)

They can go **** themselves.

The nanny state is even trying to pass bylaws to control your collection of rain water.

You're not even going off the grid (properly) and getting worked up about it :crylaugh:

Am I correct in saying that you will still be connected to the municipal sewerage system? If so, that's not off grid, that's very much on the grid.

Personally I think it is ok for the city to not want every second tom dick and harry installing septic tanks and buggering up the local soil. As for rainwater collection and all that other crap they are trying to pass, there I'll happily (and have already) moan at the city

But...

Households and business are not allowed to go off the municipal water grid for domestic purposes

The definition of domestic hasnt been defined with any clarity what so ever, it is so broad it can apply to almost any water usage on ones property.

Also there is no law that stipulates you may not turn off the stop cock to your property.

Tough for the city - they wanted it based on a % of water used - and then increased the cost with the water cost increases - I'll finally get something back from government (R50odd/pm). And my water use is still off the grid, I didn't say anything about sewerage.
