Well it's been shortly, next weekend, in the near future, now according to http://resource.capetown.gov.za/doc...s and regulations/Disaster and demand FAQ.pdf

40. Where can we find information about the collection sites?
A map of the collection points along with necessary information will be publicised over the coming
weeks
and placed on the City’s website. Signage will be placed in each community indicating where
the nearest water collection point is situated. All essential information on the Water Collection Sites
will be placed on the City’s website and communicated via multiple communication channels –
including electronic communication channels such as SMS, email and social media and physical
communications in the form of posters, signage and pamphlets.

We have not finalised each and every detail yet.

So, they probably don't know where they are or where they are going to be.

I don't think they really want to publicly announce the sites in case they don't have to use them.

Think a figure mentioned for all the sites was R200m or so.

Possibly praying like mad.

I think that's what they have been doing for a long while - now we know that according to Angus we are being very naughty so they are in panic mode.

I bought my house with a wellpoint - whether the previous owner registered it - I don't know.

I was chatting to a guy about the metering of wellpoints - and he said it'll be a nightmare for maintenance as the meters are going to get clogged up - unless of course you treat the water first to remove sand, etc.

Yes that too - but what is the point of a meter? Do they intend to take a reading every month and charge us?

They would need access to my back lawn and I leave at 6:30am and get home about 7pm week days.
Will they take an estimate every single month and if so based on what exactly?

That whole idea of it seems totally ludicrous in my opinion and will never work - yet it seems to be the law now (or have i misread ) ?

You have to record and submit it monthly to the DWA. They have not mentioned charging for it yet, or not as far as I can recall but I am 100% certain they will in the near future.

I'm sure you right they will start charging us in the near future.

Now where do we get these contraptions from and who pays ?

Have no idea but you will have to pay for it.

Wonderful. The clarity around all this is astounding!
I assume then CoCT supplies and installs and it's a good R4k or there abouts to your account like the abuses of water have to pay for their new fancy meters.

And here i am trying to save the bl**dy potable water!

According to the gazette - you have to email your usage every Monday before 12pm....

I would really like to know who in the Western Cape has put meters on their well points AND are emailing usage every Monday...

I'd imagine no one. I don't have a well point. :whistling:

I wonder how they'd actually do inspections - we're not home during working hours - my doorbell sends a photo to my phone - and if I don't recognize the person - I don't answer.

Its like TV licences. If they don't know, they can't prove anything...

Not sure if asked and answered, but what do you guys make of topping up a pool with borehole water. Will it be ok to top it up and then run the pump with some HTH to 'clean' it? I don't plan on doing this regularly as I have a cover and so evaporation isn't a major issue, but was wondering if it would be ok to do it once in a while...

farmers with swimming pools at their homes use borehole water all the time. Technically it depends on what is in the water which then determines what chemical mixture you may have to use beyond the normal chlorine plus acid or an alkaline to sort out ph.

I've done this a few times, just enough to keep the weir covered. The water runs brown for a minute or so, so I use that to water my tree.

As soon as it runs clear, I pop it into the pool, turn on the filter and throw in a cup of HTH. My pool is now slightly acidic, which I'm not too worried about. I'm just concerned about too much iron which might cause rust eventually.

Finding a gutter to catch rain water is still first prize though.

It seems we have low water pressure in Strand. The last time they did the piping upgrade, channelling low water pressure we had no running water in my area. Happily, I can live with it.
