And may I add that there was NO WATER in several streets in Plumstead from 19th to 21st October. My near neighbour, who suffers from ezcema, was busy taking a shower when the water stopped without notice. Being unable to complete his ablutions, his skin erupted in blisters. <snip>
Eish, i can relate to this, I have mild eczema etc... and if I can't shower every day it is going to become a problem. A skin condition can go from mildly irritating to become a huge problem very quickly!

the DA can't provide water to a City but wants to govern the country, that's going to be fun

Sure that the ANC would have cocked up as badly but I feel their response would have been swifter. Anyway my Facebook is full of angry comments about the city and how it's the ANCs fault from when they governed the city. A cull is needed!

It was also reiterated that alternative sources of water were “still being considered,” but that bulk supply would realistically not come online by Day Zero
oh wow. That's quite a casual statement to drop.

My condolences to Cape Townians....this is going be a shtshow of note.

Don't forget, water is a national department...

Either way, it's a ball dropped.

The DA were very proud to announce how they had alternative sources of electricity back in the day. They have farked up with regards to water though.

You're literally replying to a comment that points out that this isn't DA's turf...and then still get it wrong. :wtf:

This thread has been going in circles for so long now, that this particuar point has been re-hashed several times. It might be helpful to have an index or Q&A for this topic, but I guess that new posters still assume their comments are uniquely insightful, and ignore all previous evidence to the contrary...

Supplying Cape Town with enough water is the national government's responsibility (i.e. ANC).

All the DA run province can do is reduce usage - which they've done.

Where they have screwed up spectacularly is on the PR side - as demonstrated by your posts.

News to me. I'm happy to blame the ANC. But I do not think that would be right. Can you show links to prove such?

Don't need links. Simple logic will suffice.

River runs through province A and then B. Province A decides to dam the river. Province B dies. National gov steps in & says behave kids we'll allocate how much water you can take from the river. That's why it's a national responsibility

I don't know hey. yes they had lots of warning. but I would hate to be in this situation with an anc run city. other than our water crisis I think the DA is doing a much better job than the anc.

The dams are a shared responsibility between DWA and CoCT. See extract below from the City of Cape Town's water pamphlet of March 2017. Most of the dams are owned by the city. The city is ultimately responsible for water supply.

In this case where there is a drought the required solutions (desalination, extraction of water from ground sources, reducing water leakages etc) are the city's responsibility which is why they are the ones implementing these solutions, unfortunately way too late.

Don't confuse maintaining existing infrastructure with long range planning of SA's water.

Post source. In most sane countries when sht goes seriously sideways national government takes over.

Even if it were CPT's responsibility any semi-sane government that has literally their ~2nd most important city about to become unlivable would freak the fk out. And yes unlivable - unlike electricity lack, humans don't do well without water. The future is going to involve intense rainfall, intense solutions or intense chaos. Not sure which, but definite one of those.
