New Windows unveiled, and it's called Windows 10

Yet they can't fix the compatibility issues, everytime they introduce a new OS > you must get new programmes > possibly upgrade your devices. Tiring I say

I have windows 7 on a desktop and 8.1 on a macbook. Run the same programs with no problem at all. From Visual Studio to Oracle software, ftp, ssh clients, games, text editors, JDeveloper.

In fact, the backwards compatibility is the reason I haven't bothered to upgrade the Win 7 desktop

Yup. Got Win8, MrsC hated it, rolled back to 7, everything works. Unless they can actually provide a better version of Windows for desktop and not just a gunked up tablet hybrid mess, I'm sticking here for now. W10 looks like an improvement but I want to know what's in it for me?

I've downloaded the 32bit yesterday and installed it now on an old desktop PC. I must say it is fast on this old pc with 2.8GHz Celeron cpu, 1Gb ram and a LG 710s crt. I won't upgrade soon but if so i'll go for Win 10.

Windows 10 announced

Microsoft has announced the new version of Windows, skipping version 9 and going straight to Windows 10.

"Then you should say what you mean," the March Hare went on.
"I do, " Alice hastily replied; "at least I mean what I say, that's the same thing, you know."
"Not the same thing a bit!" said the Hatter. "Why, you might just as well say that "I see what I eat" is the same thing as "I eat what I see!"
Alice in Wonderland.

And this is what the desktop icon on the Win 10 desktop says it to mean: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-za/windows/preview?os=win9 :whistling:

Win10 is great for desktops w mouse and keyboard. Microsoft have got the message about Win8 very clearly. It's what you'd expect an improved, updated and faster Win7 should be. Try the beta. You'll like it. And there's still 8-9 months before GA.
