DEI is problematic for the following reasons:
1. It promotes people not on merit but on gender/race and skin colour.
2. It ignores valid concerns as *insert*phobic, racists or sexist etc.
I said it before I had no problem with a female firefighter who meet the same standard as men. But the moment we lower the standard to include women, then they are not the same. In the recent KZN fires, only female firefighters died. This is a direct consequence of having different standards.
Now to the commander herself. DEI defenders will make this as an attack on her being female (we can already see the Defence Minister calling her a hero), however, an objective enquiry should determine the facts and the commander role in this fiasco, hint ships dont run aground if all protocols are followed i.e. someone f@#ked up.
My brother in the 90s and early 2000s was a seaman. Their ship ran aground. The Captain, the chief engineer and their next in line were all fired (The entire chain of command).
