Hi Guys

New kid on the block. Firstly, I'm a bit shocked reading some of these threads about IBurst. Eyes have opened as to what I have got myself into. Anyway ..
Been on about a month. Firstly setup my UTD at the office. Full 100% signal, 0% frame error rate on windows 2000. On initially connecting I was getting about 30k/s download speeds. After checking my ADSL I done some MTU tweaking and am now getting up to 100k/s download speeds. Just was the docter ordered.
Then I took the UTD home. Bad signal in my area, so with an external antena installed I am getting 50-60% signal, some % frame error rate. With all tweaking done I can only get max about 30-40k/s downloads speeds. That tells me that the signal strength is tied to howmuch download throughput I am going to get.
Is this true ?? Advice ??
Also, I see on the IBurst site, that my area is in the PLANNED phase for transmitters. Numerous email to IBurst have still not told me when this planned is. Does anybody have any idea's how I can find that info. ??

Thanks

Warren

Your signal is 100% related to your througput. This is even clear in the iBurst coverage maps, but is only, as usual, an indication.

Lower signal strength = lower thruput. It's just the way the technology works.

iBurst Rollout is a mystery even to those planning it at WBS, there are several towers due for November so you might be lucky. An external antenna will go a long way to making you iBurst experience more pleasant but you need to spend some time tweaking it and finding what we call the "sweet spot"

iConnect will help you solve some of your problems.

I was sharing a connection with a few mates in blouberg till i moved, but my signal strength was only around 16% due to my laziness in sorting the connection properly.

Transfers between us were only about 400-500KB/s but as I am patient and sometimes lazy once ensconced in my comfy chair, it was fast enough.
