Hi folks,

We bought two 7kg cadac gas cylinders at Makro during the pandemic, and only used 1 for an hour or two during a huge city power outage to cook.
I just want to know if the gas in both have evaporated, or will it still be in the cylinders for use.

Thanks for any answers.

Just a yes or no answer is fine. Thank you. Appreciate it.
In that case… maybe.

Under normal circumstances they should be fine but how can we possibly know the condition of your gas bottles? The only way for you to be sure is to test the gas yourself.

I don't really think a yes or no answer is appropriate. If I say yes, does that apply to the gas having evaporated or still being in the cylinder?

Anyway, yes or no answers aside, you can still use the gas, it's a sealed container (assuming the tap was closed), it's got nowhere to go.

A 7Kg cadac gas cylinder will weigh 10Kg when full.

Weight them and you can work out how much gas is in either.

Why buy? Its a hassle to refill.

Go to a garage, pay a deposit, and the refill cost, and simply exchange when empty.

The cost of a deposit/refill is less than the price of buying an empty gas cylinder.

It depends

Easiest way to check if a cylinder has gas in it or not is the bark test. Open the tap near an open flame and it’ll bark at you if it still has gas inside.
Also a useful technique for finding gas leaks.
