I got bit with my 3g router.

Not by much, about R300 over the actual bill.

Anyone know if I can get the warning sms's sent to a different number?

Yes you can have the usage SMS go to a different number, doesn't even have to be a Voda number.

Yes but just remember that it is delayed.

I had a contract 3G setup on my wife's work PC with a small cap. It was enough for daily admin and emails. Thank goodness I added in some monitoring and hard capping on the physical PC (its a Linux machine) the day one of the staff started to watch Youtube while my wife was at home.

The notification from Vodacom only came in hours later.

We switched to prepaid after that but I now have a TopUp Data contract from Vodacom. Works much better as now I no longer need to worry about the OOB shark.

Cool, i called them ages back to ask and they said no (years back, not even the same contract).

The delay will not be a big issue, I always get the 50% and 75% warnings way in advance.

I would soft cap it but I use the night owl up every month.

If I remember correctly it has been explained on this forum that data usage on post paid is only calculated after a session has closed.

So you could still download a couple of gig before you get your notification.

Personally I would use an Android device as a hotspot to monitor and cap my usage if I was using postpaid.

JvZ said recently that it's now real time though no OOB lock option yet.
