Hi
Probably wrong forum but the wealth of information on myBB astounds, so worth a try.

A Friend(yes i shall use this tried and tested deferal), Newly qualified Chartered accountant with only articles experience.
What is the expected starting salary in Durban?

Company, recruiters and various other sources have varied ideas.

Like 200-240k CTC is acceptable.

Looking forward to the ensuing onslaught or being totally ignored.

It depends on where you work, but I'd say around R25K - R35K per month. At absolute worst it would be around R20K but if they're offering that little then I wouldn't bother.

I started my first job in 2009 straight out of articles and was able to negotiate R32,500pm however I do think I did well back then.

I would say 30k and up ( however the market has changed ).

If you interested in a good recruiter PM me as I have a 2 friends who are in the game.

regards

Impressive numbers for fresh out of articles.

So R50k is probably middle tier then, i.e. 5-10 years experience.

Thanks, they feel the same about 20k not being worth it. At the same time they dont mind if it is a starting point but several companies have implied 6 month reviews with an expectancy that staff must stick around for at least a year. It is also starting to look like its easy to burn any bridges because everyone knows everyone.

So lie to get the job and burn a bridge when you move early. Not worth it in the long run

Once I pass board 2 I can't imagine settling for anything less than R50,000.

that sounds more like what was foretold by the recruiters/articles induction/University recruiters ect. back then.

durban is way off that or I am hoping they just looking in the wrong place.

dammit i wondered how long i could keep it up. late in the day mind going offline

No, I am hoping they find what they deserve. To apply so much effort, i would just like to see them aptly rewarded. Articles is miserably paid. Compared to the work. I am not nearly as qualified or experienced and earn comparably for now.... .
Its not right for them to be undervalued. so my intent is to confirm if undervalued yes, no and they should just hold out a bit more. waiting for accrediation which is sorted this week. maybe that will bump their Salary.
