Quick question, is it better to download only one thread at full speed than to download two threads at full speed?

Does my question make sense?

It depends whether you are able to download the parts at a high speed. For every connection you make, there is a time during which the thread cannot download at a high speed. This results in wasted bandwidth.

But this will only make a difference in a very large data transfer at a very high speed, therefore not of concern to us...

When it comes to maximum speed, I find a very little difference between running at 1 or 2 threads.

That makes sense, so 2 threads on a 384 adsl connection would be quicker as i notice there is a slight delay when grabbing a new article on a thread.

Thanks froot

it's better for everyone to try use only one thread if you don't need the second. i.e. for 384 or 512Kbps ADSL you DON'T need 2 threads.

If you are above > 512 then see how far you get with one thread and see if a second is better. Does not help being greedy.

Basically, for 512 or less - one or two threads makes no difference in speed. So use one only.

by the way, according to NH you can only use two connections across both servers. You can't open two on both. In other words the maximum connections to SAIX = 2

This is the original news servers thread!

and this is the newest news server... news2.saix.net

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=151404

and this is the program you need to access the news server... Grabit

http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/ckdr8wlk/GrabIt172b3.exe.html

and here are some NZB files for you to start with on the new SAIX2 server (should hopefully be cached)

http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/im04s19y/NZB.zip.html

This is the program you need to verify and check the files you download... QuickPar

http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/bkutvv1b/QuickPar-0.9.1.0.exe.html

Without trying all the downloads, how can we get a list of what's on the download list?
3. Access to an indexing site - this is where you will browse or search for things to download from the newsgroups.

http://binsearch.info/groups.php lets you search through the most popular groups.

Pay attention to a.b.m, a.b.m.divx, a.b.tv, a.b.boneless, etc. but something like alt.binaries.kooks will probably be of no interest to what most people look for so rather concentrate on the more popular ones.

80 to 160 Kbps... currently 100 kbps on SAIX2.

It has dropped down since the server went live.

Getting busier. :(
