So they said that that idiot Judge Motata (SP) is going to walk.
What is going on in this country?
The guy was drunk and had an accident. We all know he was drunk.
I dont have a link yet so please be patient.

Technicality? Hopefully he gets fired from the bench.

But I doubt he will, how can he get fired if not found guilty? I am getting so tired of this sort of thing. We have no leaders left. :(

Look if he was drunk and crashed his car (which I think he was) then he must be brought before a court (which he has been).

The fact that he walks because someone slipped up in following procedure sucks but that is simply something that happens all over the world every day.

What is tells us is that our judges are there to follow the law to the letter and will not simply bend the way the wind is blowing. This is great news for us because it tells us that the law is fair and impartial. You just have to remember that Motata is still a human being and makes mistakes.

And no-one got hurt in this accident so maybe we should put the whole thing in perspective.

I agree with all of that but the question remains, does he still have the respect of the public and not to mention his peers in the judiciary...I think not.

Ironic then that Motata is a judge. :D

Your post made me think of our honourable judge Chris Nicholson too - the poster boy for fairness and impartiality...

Rubbish if there is a mistake or something goes missing, there was some back handers flying around, you can get off just about anything in this country with the right amount of money

Hmmm - so this can of worms that has been opened is going to have everyone whoever got nailed for drunk driving in Joburg having the rulings overturned.

Same here. We're complaining and worried about the ANC government but look at the state of the judiciary

If he keeps his seat on the bench then something is seriously screwed up.

The initial reports say his blood-alc level was 4 times the legal limit. Plus some of the things he said in the recordings are grounds for hate-speech charges.

Although I think the recordings were rendered inadmissable as evidence - dunno, since I wasn't really following the case all that closely.

he wasnt drunk. The 'hounorable' judge told everyone at the time on the scene that he had been drinking tea with his chums.

Then we all now know a chap who can't hold his tea. He's a disgrace to tea-drinkers everywhere ...
