.

And no-one got hurt in this accident so maybe we should put the whole thing in perspective.

Pope, what kind of standard is that? Somebody could have been killed by this drunkard.

You just have to remember that Motata is still a human being and makes mistakes.

No, Motata is not just another human being. He's a judge, he's in a position of power and authority and he should remember that when he conducts himself.

If he's going to go around getting drunk and crashing into people's walls, and then using his influence to make sure that he gets off scot-free, he loses his moral authority and fitness for the job.

Suddenly every decision he makes is going to be questionable.

If he had just admitted to being drunk, paid the fines, repaired the wall and apologised, then we could all forgive him mistakes and respect him for having done the right thing.

Now, he just looks like a bully and a coward.

he wasnt drunk. The 'hounorable' judge told everyone at the time on the scene that he had been drinking tea with his chums.

Thats the problem. Everyone knows that he was drunk, it's just a matter of proving it. If he is prepared to lie about that, how can we trust him to be impartial, unbiased and uncorruptable in the court.

He would have actually gained a lot of respect from normal people, IMHO, by showing that even as an "authority figure", he still submits to the laws of the country and admits his mistakes. And I think it would also have created a good message to everyone that nobody is (supposed) to be above the law.

It seems that the law doesn't treat everyone equally afterall..... :(

Somebody's made a reference to Orwell's Animal Farm before when it comes to our government and people employed by them etc ...

All are equal ... but some are more equal than others.

I can't really remember the story, read it much to long ago ... didn't the pigs rule the farm in that as well? :p

tbf all this shows is that like in most countries, if you have enough money you can use the legal channels available to you to eventually get a charge dropped.

What moral authority? judges are there to apply the LAW...

The law can be sometimes considered to be immoral (by some) e.g. 'termination of pregnacy', but the judges still have to enforce it. For heaven sake, please don't confuse the two. Morals are by nature arbitrary and subjective.
