News24, Ananzi, Supersport down when capped

Hi there

I find it strange that the big local sites like Ananzi.co.za, news24.co.za and supersport.co.za are suddenly not accessible when capped...

When I use my uncapped account things are just dandy...

Any reason? Is Telkom that scaly? Is it Telkom or not? Anybody else experiencing this?

One of two things.

Either the sites are hosted on overseas servers, or a link to JINX is down. When JINX peering links go down and are likely to remain down for some time while the line is repaired, traffic that would have normally been local traffic (routing across JINX) is routed internationally, so as to reach the intended local destination by hopping over a peering link somewhere else.

When JINX, or some of its peering links go down, local traffic to the downed ISP effectively becomes international traffic until the peering link is fixed. Such a problem will also cause latency to seem very high.

I experience the same - news24 etc not working properly on a capped account - shame on Telkom that they do not even allow us to read news in our own country after being capped
