I think they should at least include the city name somewhere in the name, else it becomes annoying unless its already famous and has not changed for long which in this case is not.

I just hate bigotry masked as service delivery concerns, it stinks.

//sarcasm on

Yes angelo how dare these WHITEY'S with luxuries like the internet care about mostly black and then some poor whitey's not getting any service delivery from government. How can these damn whitey's care about service delivery for the poor when they never had to work for anything and just got EVERYTHING for FREE during apartheid. If a WHITEY care about anyone other than himself it should and must be known as bigotry masked service delivery concerns

//sarcasm off

Now Angelo please go and get a life

At Frankfurt airport O Tambo is still listed as JHB International not O Tambo International. So much for this racist crap until they change the name of JHB!
African stupidity is synonymous with mass stupidity as stated.

Only Pupa could match Newsflash's grammar - seeing that Pupa was banned, well you figure it out... ;)

This is coming from someone who has lived in Durban all my life.

I was quite pleased when I head what they wanted to call the new airport. "King Shaka" has alot of clout in the international arena in terms of tourism and dare I say it, Brand. This new name they're proposing is just nonsensical, its like the new stadium.. wtf has ever heard of, or can pronounce King Senzagakhona???

I'm all for honouring hero's, but not at the expensive of some very very important historic figures in this country, that ARE well known internationally.

Personally I have no problem with "King Shaka" Airport ... however it does fly in the face of CODESA (something the ANC seems to have no problem with). Ah well it just a name ... Shaka has lived in peoples memories (sans airport) for roughly 200 years ... I wonder how long Mr Tambo will live???

IanC... I have no problem with "King Shaka" Airport, I think its actually quite a catchy name, and at least as a South African, and Natalian as well, I have some kind of connection with it. This other new name, has no meaning to me, and probably more than 70% of the population, and thats where I have a problem.

Hang on, King Shaka was a despot. He massacred people in their droves, stole their wives and generally carried on like the dictator putting people to death at will. Isn't naming an airport after him like naming it 'Adolf Hitler' or 'Joseph Stalin International'?

... and what were most other countries engaged in at that particular point in history??

Hardly ... all Shaka did was make his people an effective fighting force.

Yes, he was a despot and a madman and all those bad things. But our tourism boys have managed to make him an international brand that people recognise, and as such it would be good to have an airport named after him. More inventive than Durban International.....

Considering the complicated political landscape here don't you think non-inventive, neutral names are maybe a good idea?
