Nexus 10 review (MyBroadband)

Why does Apple see the opportunity in SA whereas Google ignores us like a bad rash?

I ordered my GN 10 from Esquire and get it on Tuesday. Will give some feedback. I have had iPads since they were released but love Android on my GN 4 so really looking forward to a good Android Tablet.

Let us know...
where did you get your Nexus 4?

biggest shortcoming of this tab is the lack of mobile connectivity (3g etc)

I don't get the importance of 3G / LTE on tablets.

When you play with top end stuff like iPad and Nexus tablets, surely there must be a "hotspot" capable device in your pocket or nearby

Why pay about R1000 more and have extra Sims with another Data Plan

Please correct me in if I don't get it ;-)

Read the threads on this forum, one of the most common compaints about smartphones is battery life. Why would i want to run a hotspot on my phone when the device i have can connect on its own power?

Second, most data bundles are cheaper on a contract. Bolt on data bundles on voice contracts are not at the same prices as pure data sims - so a dedicated sim, seperate from my voice contract will work out cheaper.

Third, this is africa - wifi hotspots are not on every corner.

Because you run the phone's battery down a lot quicker when it is a hotspot ... and when you need that phone the battery has gone flat. I tried working the way you propose with my first tablet (iPad 1) but will never again take a tablet without its own 3G/HSPA/LTE.

I guess it's if you don't have WiFi available. I have the Nexus 10 and I'm almost always within WiFi. Even if it had 3G, I would probably not use it.
I have a mobile device for that.

BTW, I think the Nexus is the closest to, if not better than the iPad. But I suspect this is becoming a matter of opinion.

If you root, you can just plug in a 3g dongle... who needs to pay extra $$$ for built-in 3G support?

Please share a link where this is confirmed as working - hope it indicates which dongles are supported.

I have looked for this, but found nothing - maybe i didnt look hard enough.

I carry my S3 everywhere I go, so no issue there. Unlikely I'll be using a hotspot for extended periods though, so no worries about battery life.

True too. You should be able to easily get an OTG cable. Doubles as useful for external storage.

Strange that no-one is using Bluetooth Tethering. Saves a lot when it comes to battery at the cost of speed (500Kb/s max stable)
