Weird how there isn't a drastic difference between models that are nearly a year old and those that are new. Excited to see what HTC comes up with for the One 2 (name included). IMHO that is the only phone (the Sony's are very good but the One is something else) that can compete with Apple in terms of build and power.

Ageed on the HTC One. So much better than my old S3 and the S4

Just a correction to the original article; the version of Android that's on the HTC One is Android 4.2.2 .

In terms of build quality, sure, but power?

I was gifted recently with a LG Optimus Black. It's my first Android Phone and it is second hand, but well looked after.

Probably not in the same league as these flagship devices, but it has left me in awe so far after a week's usage.

I thoroughly enjoy it. It's in my opinion just as good as if not better than older iPhones. It's bloody fast, responsive. Great as a wifi hotspot for my tablet. It has an FM Radio, great camera and the list goes on.

I almost feel cheated that Android on my Tablet doesn't have the same sense of awsomeness that it has on my phone. Why. I'm not sure.

I worked on IOS again today and I'm sure that Android and the former share traits, so I'm not not knocking either. I'm just saying I'll rather stick with the Optimus and not have an iPhone 5 :)

It is running a custom ROM of Zeus Gingerbread AFAIK. I thought about upgrading to ICS, but everyting works and I'm also using it as a spare. So don't want to mess it up if I can help it.

I was running IZS, heuxx's ICS version of the rom
but rather stay with GB, was much more smoother for me
..

Yeah I think so too. I think GB was more stable and had better battery life as well. Only reason I loaded ICS was because some of the newer apps doesn't work with GB (e.g Nova Launcher)

I wasn't using the Optimus anymore and had an older version of IZS on (think 0.6). Recently I decided to upgrade it to the latest IZS. Without paying much attention to the instructions (and some of Heuxx's links were dead) I wiped it and flashed the latest IZS. For some reason this bricked it - It came on but would not boot into the OS + I could not get into recovery with any key combinations at all.

In the end I plugged it onto my pc and used adb to tell it to reboot to recovery (didn't even know I could do this but came on to it by accident). After that I garbed one of Heuxx's GB roms and flashed that.

fyi
adb reboot recovery
was the command that saved your phone tera :whistling:

The One is just as powerful as the S4 or any other flagship except perhaps the 5S due to the 64 bit A7. The only place where it doesn't spec up is in the camera department and that is because of HTC's Ultra Pixel approach which is a debate unto itself as to the pros and cons of it.

Huh? The HTC One is all previous generation hardware (Snapdragon 600, Adreno 320). I agree the build quality on the One is very nice but hardware wise it's old. All flagships (N5, G2, Z1 off my head) available now will be Snapdragon 800/Adreno 330 or equivalent. All the One has going for it is build quality.

Yeah, this is what I was getting at.

True, but it doesn't mean it is a slouch. Obviously the newer phones with the newer hardware will be better but the difference in performance isn't massive. Especially in normal day to day use. It is still one the most powerful phones (not phablets) out there and the build of it is better than anything Android. This phone is nearly a year old, for people here who care about technical specs it may be lacking but given to any consumer on the street and I doubt they will be able to tell a difference of any real magnitude.
