I need a bit of guidance here peeps. I have an option to get either of these phones, and really can't make up my mind. What would you do? And why?

I have had the G2 and G3 and loved them. Still use the G3 as a dedicated nav device in the car. Wifey has a G4 and its equally brilliant.

Currently using the Nexus 6 and love this too. What I do miss from the G3 was the buttons on the back. I hate the buttons in the side now - but live with it because the rest of the phone is brilliant.

So now I must make a choice, but not even a little voice in my head is guiding me...

I would wait for the next nexus (renamed as Pixel) which will probably be announced on the 4th of October.

I don't mind running one version behind. I am kind of over chasing the latest and greatest phones now. Was a bad position to be in at one time - upgrading every 6 month's. It means I can buy someone else's used device (in perfect condition of course), for a lot less.

I hear you man. Been a long time fan of the Nexus range. But also a convert to LG when I dumped Sammy for the LG G3.
But... I learned last night that the button on the back of the G5 is now just power. No volume rocker - as that has moved to the side again. So one major love of the G3/4 has been taken away, making my decision a lot easier now.

Do both run stock Android?

No. But when I had my G3, it periodically got the latest Android updates BEFORE the Nexus devices. LG were on the ball, but not sure if that's the case anymore.
I also learned last night that the G5 has quite a bit more app bloat that the previous G devices, so it seems they are going the Sammy route now with all the bloatware. Sigh...

Anyway - I walked into the office this morning and posed this question to my staff - and one of them has a G5. It was unanimous - Nexus 6P. And so this is the route I will be taking.

For those with a 6P, do you think R5k for a pre-owned device (32GB) with light scuff marks on the edges (covered by a case) is a decent price? I feel it may be a little high, and I should perhaps wait until the release of the new Pixel devices as that will drop the price of pre-owned 6P's quite a bit.

I have the G4. its a brilliant phone.
but mine has gone into bootloop, and that really really sucks a lot. trust me.

I am not a fan of the G5, and it does not have the buttons on the back, so do not look at that as an option. the only thing you get is the double tap to unlock.

I would say go for the Nexus.

its an okay price.. you can always haggle.. bear in mind that by the time pixel devices are accessible to us in SA, those light scuff marks are going to turn into light scratches or deep gouges, cracked screens etc..

6P for stock android, LG G5 if you don't mind some bloatware.

G5 has slightly better specs than the 6p (GPU, RAM, CPU).
None of these would be noticeable when actually using the phone.
But it does have a smaller battery than the 6P.
So slightly higher specs, some bloatware and smaller battery may mean the battery life isn't as good as the 6P.

But this is just on paper. Practically, I have no idea if that's actually the case.

Personally I would go with the 6P.

My wife is considering exactly the same choice, Nexus 6p (or 5x) Or the LG G5. She takes alot of pics of the kids so a good camera is very important . For those of you with the 6p or 5x, what is the camera on it like?

the 6p can take some really good pics.. i dont know how it compares the g5 though as i havent played with it.. but i imagine the fancy camera module on the g5 may take better pics if you dont mind having it attached constantly to always have it ready when that snapshot moment comes up..
