Not sure if anyone would be terribly interested in these? Maybe some MBA peeps?

Just received my Nifty. Was a bit worried - fair to say it has not been the smoothest of Kickstarters... Was very careful at removing it from the packaging... :)

[Seems some overly-enthusiatic Yanks missed out on how much glue was used to stick the Nifty onto|into the box - and pulled the proverbial out of it... Given that it is essentially a small piece of plastic glued to a smaller piece of aluminium-knockoff, I'm sure you can guess that such extraction is not advisable...]

Came with a complimentary 2GB micro SD card (which I never even knew about - nice surprise!).

But enough jabbering - here be pics:

How is this anything other than a really expensive SD card bracket with a LED or two built in? Genuinely curious here as I don't know Apple products at all.

Yip - if you knew Apple products (or rather, products made by others for Apple products) - then you'd know there's no way in hell they'd put a LED in there - that might have made the price justifiable... :)

Jokes [or not] aside - there are cheaper versions available, but plastic-only, and more known to have quality issues. The main benefit of this, is that it sits flush with the side of the laptop. Set and forget - no need to unmount and eject every time I pop it into the bag etc. - because I will forgot to do that one day, and the thought of an SD card snapping off and being stuck in my machine, does not fill me with happy thoughts.

Ah okay, that explains it. It's still pretty damn expensive for what it is though :p

No doubt. But if it lasts as long as I intend using it - and judging by things, it should - then small price to pay!

Btw - just a head's up. Will try and find the link in a bit - but some of the newer Mac models do not necessarily go into sleep mode, if a SD card is inserted. Workarounds exist - but something to keep in mind.

Fortunately - mid2012 not one of those. Working perfectly.

Does it work as a cache drive or is it just a extra 2-64Gb storage?

The latter is how intend using it. Going to test how running Win7 as a VM performs, quite a few have tried this, with varied results. As for the former - had to Google 'cache drive'. No idea if it would be possible.

Never got round to testing it. Failed to appreciate the potential pitfalls of uninstalling a VM >>

The "why" is rather vague at the moment, but had something to do with my other HDD. Regardless, needed to reinstall my VM, and when I did that - ran into licensing issues with Windows, since it failed to recognise the prior uninstall. Was a PITA to re-register the license, to get it up and running again on the VM. After that, didn't feel like the schlepp of trying things with another install on the Nifty, so left things as the were.

As mentioned though, peeps over on the Macrumors forum gave it a go, and seemed to work for them. Guess it would help if you had one of the camera "pro" SD cards to work with though, to allow for maximum transfer speeds.

I have done this, but the performance is too slow and some files actually become corrupt.
