Damn, I am disgusted in the amount of Nigerian scammers operating in South Africa. I posted adverts to sell 2 Macbooks on junkmail/capeads and in just over 24 hours I have received 16 responses from scammers, most who are Nigerian and 2 genuinely interested people. 16!!!!!!!!!!

Many are ridiculous emails asking me to ship to Nigeria, a few phone calls from dodgy Nigerian sounding black guys (the last 2 who I told to **** off :mad:back to where they came from) asking me to courier, and quite a few sms's by people saying they are interested and to call if the Macbook is available. I phoned 3 and guess what, yes, yet a few more dodgy Nigerian guys.

Way to go for complaining about Xenophobia I say to the Nigerians who complain. I am yet to meet an honest Nigerian. Every single "Baba Mike", "King John" or "Big James" I meet has the same vile scammer genes hard coded into their DNA. Where are the Namibian, Afrikaans or Zulu scammers?

This is in no way an attack on a certain ethnic group but based on experiences, the facts are the facts.

If I am wrong it is amazing how many Nigerian designers and Mac users there are these days :wtf:who are so familiar with same day courier service pick ups.

Too stupid or too lazy. I work with a handful of Nigerians - they're all upstanding, hard working, honest and reliable folk. If your only contact with Nigerian people is when you advertise a laptop in a scummy paper like JunkMail (the name says it all), then don't be surprised when you find scammers. But to judge 154 million people based on your extremely limited exposure is downright bigoted.

There are plenty South African scammers, by the way, I've encountered lots of them in my work.

Junkmail is the worst... Gumtree is a bit better. I never use Junkmail to advertise on.

I was expecting someone to have response like this. Of course not all Nigerians are dishonest and I won't judge every Nigerian I meet on this. But Nigeria is consistently ranked #1 in Africa on the world's internet scam list and is now also #3 in the world. Thanks to Nigerian scammers many online stores do not ship ANYWHERE in Africa. Is it also coincidence that many of the biggest drug and prostitution cartels in South Africa are run by Nigerians?

Trust me, I have had other dealings with Nigerians that were not online and I usually get a nonsense story. Like the idiot who tried to scam me out of my Nissan Sentra when I sold it. I do however know a Nigerian security guard who has a degree but can't get work in his field who is a great guy. But I am say it is safer not to deal with Nigerians in South Africa as you are generally looking for trouble. I got an order through my website on Monday from a company in Joburg wanting 100 GPS's with Nigerian maps. Guess what? Scammers. Its crazy.

Finally, and most disturbingly, Jeff was not heard from again. I personally e-mailed him for permission to run his story on ZUG, but after an initial response, I never heard from him again. All of his Web sites have come down, and he is nowhere to be found.

Um.............

Tried to sell my second hand Nokia E72 and got the same response on JunkMail.

Get less worries on Gumtree.co.za but they're still lurking everywhere... :S
