Hi,

I am a newbie to this world of photography and was wondering if the above model for R4999 was a good price?

Yeah it is not bad. That is the going price I think.

Otherwise you can get the twin lens bundle for about R6500 - R7000 which comes with a 55-200 lens

Also I was wondering as I have read a view reviews and this Nikon D3100 keeps coming out on top for entry level.

I would like to hear your opinions on the matter. Is the camera easy to navigate? Will it last me a good couple of years? If not what is the recommendation in the same price bracket and specs

The D3001 is a fantastic camera. Especially for entry level users. It is very easy to use if you don't know what you are doing, and it is also flexible for someone who does know how to use a DSLR.

For around the R4000 mark for the body and 1 lens, I personally don't think there is anything better out there. Unless of course you look at 2nd hand.

Keep it on auto until you learn about aperture, shutter speeds and ISO settings. Then you can start playing around with the A and P modes which requires a bit more know how to get the best possible picture. Do a bit of reading and it should help make more sense.
