Network Time (NITZ) on Vodacom seems to be two minutes ahead. I'd like to confirm if vodacom does NITZ, if it's two minutes ahead, and I'd like to find out who to report it to to get it fixed.
Why I think NITZ on Vodacom is broken?
- "Network Time" on a vodacom Android phone is two minutes ahead. Manual time fixes it, but automatic time always goes two minutes ahead.
- Android uses NITZ when available, to the expense of GPS or NTP (see https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4581)
- This happens all over Joburg (west, east and north tried so far)
What happens when it breaks?
- services dependent on time (eg. navigation) can go wrong, or get stuck (eg. Google Maps stuck on "Rerouting, see https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/maps/XOgnQbhACfI)
- alarms wrong
- calendars wrong
When did it break?
- Recently (a few days)
What have I tried to contact vodacom?
- chat (their chat keeps disconnecting me "no internet connection...")
- not sure their support knows about NITZ
If Vodacom doesn't do NITZ, I'll need to dig up where my phone is getting it's info from.
