We're down 1.55% from a month ago.

URGENT UPDATE ON CHURCHILL PIPELINE REPAIR

July 30,2021

Equipment for repairs has been brought to site by helicopter due to the difficulty in accessing the site.

Repair work has already started. We envisage work to be completed during the course of the day.

Due to the severity of this water outage, we are looking at a possibility of increasing water tanker points to accommodate the demand.

The published water tanker positions have not changed for now.

The Municipality would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unexpected emergency repair work.

More updates will follow as work progresses.

Issued by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Communications.

With the problems with the Churchill pipeline I've decided to run the house off the tanks over the weekend.

Bathed in buckets last night using the previous night's bath water that was boiled. Then filled up buckets with our tank water today...

Well, this repair has given us a good "dry run" of what our daily routine will be when there is no water. What a mission.

URGENT UPDATE!!!

UPDATE ON REPAIR AT CHURCHILL PIPELINE

The identified leak was repaired in the early hours of Saturday morning. During the repair, a secondary leak was discovered that will need a substantial amount of preparation work, including heavy construction equipment.

With this in mind, and considering the extended time for the preparation before commencing with the repair, the pipeline will be put back into service.

With the long length of pipeline and reservoirs that are empty, it is envisaged that this will take the rest of the day into Sunday. Water pressure should start returning to the affected areas by Sunday afternoon.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank residents for their understanding.

I wonder how much water is going to be lost while preparing to repair the second leak?

No tanks?

Has water been restored?
Even with water tanks, I still find myself having to cart water upstairs and use a camp shower. There is still insufficient water pressure to reach the aforementioned shower.

We are also renting and with the complex layout rain water collection is not feasible. I am on my way out to purchase a tank nearby. I also have the contact details of individuals who will (allegedly) be able to deliver water. Will enquire next week.

Under powered pump?

I cleared an airlock in mine and the pressure is now more than ample for our needs.

URGENT UPDATE!!!

UPDATE ON REPAIR AT CHURCHILL PIPELINE

The identified leak has been repaired and pipeline is currently being primed and thereafter the system will be filled up.

It is important to note that all the water is currently being fed through one pipeline while the other was being repaired. In addition, as a result of the high water consumption of the residents, the system remains strained and the recovery of the system will take longer.

The overall reduction in water consumption remains crucial considering that in about 2 months time Churchill will have no water storage left.

It is of utmost importance to save water in every way we can, or we will be forced to queue for it in the near future.

Let's avoid dry taps by adopting water saving habits.

For more information on the Nelson Mandela Bay drought crisis, kindly visit our website on: www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za.
So essentially if you were affected by the current problems then that's your countdown. Two months.

WATER SUPPLY UPDATE

The City would like to inform affected residents and businesses that the Churchill pipeline has filled up.

Most critical distribution reservoirs are building storage.

This means that water has began to be restored in low lying areas of the supply system.

We will continue to see gradual restoration into the day.

Water tankers will be deployed up until 100% water restoration is achieved.

The following key distribution reservoirs are being monitored and strategic pumps are running to boost distribution.

The reservoirs are as follows:

Emerald Hill still at 1,5%
Fairview- 3,11%
Strandale - 3.5%
Gledenning - 7,3%
Fort Nottingham- 1,56%
Airport reservoir - 5,3%
St George's reservoir - 8,39%

The Municipality would like apologise for the inconvenience and also thank the residents for their understanding.

More updates will follow as reservoirs continue to fill up.
