Malema: Khanyile’s imprisonment reveals ANC’s apartheid tactics

JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says Bonginkosi Khanyile’s five-month detention shows how the African National Congress (ANC)-led government is using apartheid tactics to suppress Fees Must Fall activism.

Khanyile will be released on bail of R250 after his previous attempts to be set free were denied three times.

The conditions for his release include that he refrain from obstructing police if and when they’re on campus.

The State entered into an agreement with the activist’s lawyers after failing to argue why he should still be imprisoned.

“Fellow fighters, Bonginkosi is going home today,” Malema announced.

He says the Supreme Court of Appeal had earlier suggested that Khanyile's matter be settled between the two parties, but when they approached the prosecuting authority they couldn’t agree.

“We went to the NPA and said let’s talk. The NPA refused to talk to us and declined the offer which was made by the Supreme Court of Appeal. That is arrogance.”

The EFF leader has described Wednesday’s ruling as another victory and he’s urged Fees Must Fall activists to continue with their fight for free education.

Fees Must Fall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile found guilty of public violence

#FeesMustFall activist Bonginkosi Khanyile has been convicted on charges of public violence‚ failing to comply with a police instruction and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The student of the Durban University of Technology appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Monday before Magistrate Siphiwe Hlophe.

The public gallery was a sea of red‚ with members of the EFF Students Command showing their support for the popular activist.

Nearly three years after his arrest in 2016‚ during the height of national student unrest‚ Khanyile made an admission that would ultimately result in a guilty verdict.

It's actually the PA councillor there who employed him so the municipality doesn't have much of a choice in the matter since it is a political position so the usual things that would disqualify him for any regular job were not taken into consideration.

Political expediency. They sure are attempting to woo his supporters.

Oh 100% on this front, but the mind fscking boggles that a convicted criminal of this sort can be employed by a political party and then have the audacity to stand up and spew the bullshyte he has.

Well it is Gayton and Kenny... not exactly squeaky clean characters you know.

Gayton has my vote, regardless, because of the entertainment value:
