I have a strange problem...

I have the Black Cell C speedstick (E1820) Im running it off a USB extension cable (ENDLESS problems on that regard, but i just haveto go out and buy a USB 2.0 Booster extension cable)

Everything has been working fine up until lastnight.
I plug the stick in and it flashes blue (once my PC actually picks up the stick...stupid USB extension) and opens the Dashboard (thats how i know my PC picks it up...set it to start when stick has been found) AS SOON AS I CLICK CONNECT i get a "connecting to cell c" then a "failed to discover network" and the light on the stick is flashing green. now is it something i did or is Cell C network infact down? Im in the Kenridge area in Bellville.

I was fiddiling with the ports but set that all back... reason i was fidiling with that is cause sometimes I get the dash to open (I.E. device is found) and then when i hit connect it screams at me saying "the specified port is not open" wich frustrates the living S#1T out of me...

anyone have solutions for me??

the only thing i havent tried (which im thinking of doing tonight) is uninstall and re-install

any and all help appreciated

try without the usb extension cable and in a different usb port.

Had the same issue - usb port just doesn't supply enough juice.

Also try a new cable, had similar problem with a customer.
She needed the usb cable at home (works fine plugged in directly in other locations) & luckily i had a new one in my bag for her.
Hers was working ok until it started picking up then modem just disappeared.

I had similar issues last night - but i am assuming its the intense bad weather ... unless of coarse they are busy doing some kind of work on the network.

but at least this morning my stick found a network fast - and has remained connected (touch wood cause I have a raid tonight ^^)

Good day snake eyes

try using it directly to test if picks up?
if not try different ports.
What system you using ? e.g. 32bit/ 64bit
what OS :

As The_Librarian port dose not supple enough power. try a y-cable if need to help with the power issue at hand.

Heyup

Does the CellC shops stock such a cable for the Huawei E1820? I had one a while ago, but it was a loaner. Works great, especially if you've got dodgy USB ports.

I know the cable is one of the issues, thats why i said "ENDLESS problems on that regard, but i just haveto go out and buy a USB 2.0 Booster extension cable" the extension does give me crap...but once its connected its fine.

but that isnt the issue in this case, I did try plugging it straight into the PC...but i still get the same issue, click connect and all of a sudden, no network found

I had endless issues connecting my 3dscanner to my pc and getting it to stay stable.

Tried a Y cable and also got issues.

Eventually I got a Self Powered 3amp USB Hub, never had an issue with high powered devices again.

I plugged in the USB booster, and the device re-installs itself, and connects FIRST TIME, but the RSSI is FAR worse than if i use the normal USB cable that frustrated the crap out of me O_O what gives...

Coincidentally I PM'd the Cell C rep not long before this thread started.

I am also running Windows 7 64 bit. Speedstick is plugged directly into my laptop. What I have tried.

1) On my XP machine. No issues. Works first time, every time. Doesn't work on Windows 7 64.

2) First noticed the issue 2 weeks after updating to SP1. Was working fine directly after update and everyday thereafter...Until it just stopped working.

3) Have tried another USB port. No Success.

4) Have used the driver download as suggested. Followed the steps EXACTLY.

I have now come to my wits end....Thank goodness I have my ADSL, but with all these rolling blackouts scheduled

oh ja forgot to mention.

- Rebooted my machine after removing the Cell C software
- Disabled all network connections before attempting to install the new drivers.
- Run the driver as admin.

this $#%^ing thing makes NO sense O_O

ok, I dont know what you guys did lastnight to the tower in my area...wind might have knocked it or something...i dont know... but all of a sudden im getting crap RSSI ratings (not that it was good to start with)

with a standard USB cable (the one i sometimes have issues connecting with) i usedto get a flat -63 RSSI

now for some reason its between -77 and -83.

and with the booster/repeater cable, its around a -89 RSSI

so, the more stable the power, the worse the RSSI??? that makes ABSOLUTLY no sense to me
