There is no TV guide on my Explora but there is one on my HD PVR. DSTV said to reboot and wait yesterday but still nothing has changed. Should I just wait longer? Or is this a setting that got reset or decoder/installation problem?

Depends.

The EPG on all the decoders has been rather "erratic" as a result of all the channel changes and moves in the last 2 weeks, if this is the cause, then a reboot normally sorts it out.

If the problem persists, you need to check the signal levels and quality values on tuner 3 ... Signal level needs to be > 80% with a quality value as close to 100% as possible to ensure continuous reception of the EPG data.

Low values could be due to a failure of the LNB (depending on which one is installed), or that the skew angle adjustment is not optimised.

Are you having any problems with BO and CU downloads?

Another new issue apparently on some installs is 3G/LTE interference, although I have never seen interference levels high enough to cause problems.

Then it could be a decoder failure only affecting tuner 3

Do you have a TWIN LNB and an Explora switch version 5-1 or 5-2 installed, or a new SLNB with a single cable from the LNB to the decoder? Is there more than one decoder connected in XV?

The default settings for the Explora userbands and frequencies are:

Tuner 1 userband 0 frequency 1210
Tuner 2 userband 1 frequency 1420
Tuner 3 userband 2 frequency 1680

For a single Explora connected to either a SLNB or any of the Explora switches.

The settings when connected to a 5-2 switch for a second Explora connected in XV is:

Tuner 1 userband 3 frequency 1892
Tuner 2 userband 4 frequency 2040
Tuner 3 userband 2 frequency 1680

The only time other userbands and frequencies are used is when there is more than one decoder connected to a SLNB, in which case the choice depends on which other decoder is connected under XV.

I have a smart LNB with a Explora as primary and HD PVR as secondary. Not sure about the switch.

Sorry of the inquisition but MC have made things rather complicated.

You probably have the first SLNB model LMX 500 ( 4 Unicable ports and 2 legacy ports).

There are reports that this model SLNB gives trouble in cold weather and then fails. MC will do a free replacement IF you contact them directly (and NOT the call centre as mostly they will not know what you are talking about) and it is found that the SLNB is faulty. The new model SLNB is LMX501, with 3 Unicable ports and 1 legacy port.

Send me a PM and I will give you a contact in MC that will help to check out the SLNB for you.

Most of the HD PVRs do not allow you to change the user bands and frequencies. So the user bands have to be changed on the Explora to prevent interference between the decoders.

HD PVR 4 tuners use userbands 0,1,2,3; THEN the settings on the Explora have to be to use userbands between 4 and 7 with the correct frequency.

HD PVR 2 tuners use userbands 0,1 so the Explora can then be set to use userbands between 2 and 7.

There was a sw update on the HD PVR 2P ( Pace) which now allows one to keep the Explora at default and change the user bands on the HD PVR 2P instead, avoiding any band used by the Explora.

It was the smart LNB. I had the old one replaced with the LMX501 model. If you have the old model I would try and get it replaced, mine only lasted 4 months.
