I've been using Uber (black) twice a week for the last few months to and from the airport.
In the last month or so, I noticed that as we approach the airport, the drivers literally hide their cellphones with the Uber app on them. When I asked why, they all say the same thing - harassment and intimidation from everyone including the airport security, police and of course regular taxi drivers. They literally chase them away. One of the drivers even had a dent in his car from another taxi driver kicking the car as he was making an escape.

In my opinion, Uber represents a future of personal transportation. It is a smart company that offers great service and uses tax laws efficiently, not to make more money, but to pass that value directly to their customers. I for one certainly won't complain about a better, faster, cheaper and lets face it - cooler method of transport.

Yes pretty much this. With uberX I know the costs are very reasonable and it's all done automatically etc and there's no discussion at all over this with any driver ever so far. They are cheaper than regular taxis, there's no having to phone someone, try spell things out 10 times, phoning to ask where the guy is or if he got lost etc etc, seeing if you have cash or passing by an ATM, trying to negotiate with the driver and then the actual cars themselves. I pretty much know it's going to be a corolla and he's going to travel slightly under the speed limit and the seat belts, radio, aircon are all going to be working 100% and he's not going to get lost or waste time trying to find a place.

+ 10000000000

I hate hate hate trying to tell a taxi company where to pick me up. They never ever get it right the first time, then after that you gotta try negotiate absurd rates.

Uber is amazing, used it many times without fail. I hope they destroy the taxi industry.

They have pretty much done so in Durban at least...

Everyone I know will use Uber now over organising a Taxi...

Yeah why wouldn't they? The seat in a corolla feels pretty much the same as the seat in a 320i so I mostly use UberX. I'm not exactly trying to impress the ladies when I rock up at the club in a "bmw" or anything.

Last time I arrived at ORT I went outside and someone asked me if I needed a taxi (as they inevitably do) and I just said "no, I'm waiting for a friend" and he goes "oh, uber...". The harassment thing isn't cool though. If you go on the uber app you can see where the guys are chilling near the airport though as there will always be a few waiting.

I think mostly because ppl just call it "Uber".... they don't differentiate which specific one they're using.

I take Uber everyday, as do most of my fiends as well as my colleagues. But Uber means the original (UberBlack) to myself and to them
