No Google Nexus 4 for South Africa: the real story

I can't see why the excuse of not selling enough units is not plausible? People on this board, or in this section may know enough about the Nexus 4 but do you think we really big enough to make a dent in the market?

Out of interest, how many of you actually have the old Nexus?

I can't see them spending huge cash on marketing it either, and if they do, then I doubt the pricing would remain the same.

Don't get me wrong, if they were to bring it here I would get one in a heartbeat. I just understand why they won't.

I FEEL that Samsung wasn't willing to push this device in South Africa, as they had the SII to push and the Note. I have a Galaxy Nexus, well had. had three actually. one got damaged replaced it with another, which got stolen, and replaced it with another one recently which I got robbed off. all in the world of SIII and ONE X. But that's coz Samsung is big player though and don't need the momentum the Galaxy Nexus provided. to the point where if you buy one from Vodacom today it still has 4.0.4 on it. like seriously.

I digress: LG however NEED the kinda momentum the Nexus 4 can provide. that OPTIMUS G is going to tank here in SA coz of the LG brand. but byt associating the Nexus 4 more with Google than LG, and only mentioning in the background that they made it, they could really get some traction. #justsaying

This is officially trolling, but I ned something to do while I pressed refresh on the google play American website waiting for 12PM eastern.

but it seems we were all right. and LG SA is wrong. this so called "inferior" phone has sold out in under 30minutes in every market it has been sold in. I want to see them even think about achieving that with the so called superior Optimus G.

as always in SA, personal profits come before anything else.

True I don't understand why they have tp make everything so much more expensive. If I take a look at release prices for pretty much any phone and convert the amounts into rands, I'm always left with a price that's way lower than the prices we're seeing in SA. Not just that, but newer tech is always delayed and older tech never seems to depreciate in value as much as you'd expect. Sometimes the pricing system with tech in SA just pisses me off.

double hell yeah, and a woo hah to that

I wouldn't simply buy something from LG, I mean yeah the Optimus G is great and fast and whatever but it's like taking a risk and this is a company that can really screw a person over as far as I know. So for that price range you'd probably be better off with an HTC or Samsung device.

Carriers not wanting the Nexus 4 for the SA market is just pure BS, I mean they didn't make the name nexus known in the country either. Other than that they pretty much mess it up as well with their overpricing. The whole idea with a nexus device is to get a full droid experience at an affordable price. The Nexus 4 has all that and would probably sell like hotcakes than not at all.

To LG trying sell the Optimus G in SA.... Like bloody good luck selling like 10 of em!

[EDIT]
Provide the Nexus 4 and I'll show ya the money!

"Claim their VAT back" ?
How?

I am a consultant and work via my CC. Most gadgets I am able to buy through the CC (as long as there is a work related purpose for it), and claim the VAT back again when I do my VAT returns every 2 months.

Esquire selling them for around R2k cheaper. Local stock too.

Can't seem to find a buy button or checkout page. Can the average joe on the street buy from esquire? Or should I simply go do it through my local pc shop

I am getting mine from UK for about $426 ! Can't wait, have cut my microsims already. My last touchphone was an XDA Windows Phone 6 one about 5 years ago.

Have already prepared a very deep grave for my last 2 Blackberry phones.

Telling me that helps nothing, since they sell to businesses with an account registered at esquire. I don't have a business, I don't work at a place either that has an account there.

The search tool on this forum works well. Just pm the esquire rep and they will hook you up with a personal account. Mybb individuals have been buying stuff from esquire for ages.
