How can they be, was their decision to pay him out so that they could get Alonso.

Yup. Can't recall the figures exactly, but with what McLaren were apparently offering, Kimi would end up earning more directly from Ferrari that what he would combined from them & McLaren.

Remember, Kimi had a contract with Maranello until the end of next season, so they're in for a considerable amount in compensation for ending the contract a year early. There's a subsequent clause that would see his severance diminished if he went to another team...

apparently just for a year, and Redbull have a major stake in that team and could line him up as a replacement to Webber next season

Yea one year deal in the Junior Team should be good to watch me thinks it might be Vettel that leaves Redbull though. German = Mercedes ?
