Telkom is a 24x7 joke, so it's not an April fools and if it was how would one know?

Ok, so its an DNS issue because Google IP address works for me.

Now, is there any way to get around it?

If it was a SAIX DNS issue, surely using opendns would work? But it doesn't?

Any ideas?

Guys the problem is an international one. Its seems ADSL everywhere is unstable and slow. Some people will connect but it will be slow. My ISP should give me an update in about an hour from now.

Yeah, my bad - it's DNS after all. Very easy to fix. On windows XP:

1. start / control panel / network connections
2. right click / properties on Local Area Connection
3. go down to TCP/IP and select it.
4. Click Properties, click Advanced click DNS
5. Add these two OpenDNS addresses: 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222

All sorted and you'll never have to worry about Telkom's DNSs again.

Manually put in a dns server at tcp/ipV4 for vista and tcp/ipV6 for xp

196.43.14 and 196.43.1.11 Most websites will work then.

Easy, use IP addresses instead of URL's.

How to get IP address? Well you can ping the URL and the DNS server will convert it for you.

Ive had about 10 ADSL clients phone me this morning. Most on IS but a couple on SAIX.

The most common problem is: Cant browse, can receive email, cant send email.

What a pain!

Oh.. and this is in East London.

If DNS was working then you could resolve the IP address, but if DNS was working then we wouldn't have to use IP addresses ;) hmm chicken before the egg.

Better way to resolve IP addresses while SAIX dns is down

from cmd prompt do

nslookup - 208.67.222.222

then at the prompt type in the name you want resolved.

Or just change your DNS servers to OpenDNS servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Opendns seems to work for some sites, but not all (At least I can seem to post here now without getting time outs every 30 seconds)
