I am trying to get my old man's Nokia 6110 Navigator sorted out.
Yesterday morning he switched the phone on and had no network coverage. It was showing no signal and not even showing MTN operator logo. If you try make a call you get a "No network coverage" error.
So when he got into work he phoned NashuaMobile, and they checked his account. According to them, the account is fine and everything should be working. So then he took it into a NM store nearby, and the decided to do a sim-swop. So he left the phone switched off for 24 hrs like instructed, switched it on this morning... same problem.

Ok, so I take his MTN sim card and put it into my N95 and it works fine first time. I then took my Vodacom sim and tried it in his phone, and it also worked no problem. So this is where I am stuck. The sim works in my phone, so it's not the sim. My sim works in his phone, so it's not the phone. Can there somehow be an incompatability between the MTN sim and the Nokia 6110?

I then tried restoring "Factory settings", no luck. I then did a hard reset (*#7370#), same thing. Still sitting with no network coverage.

Just to mention that the phone was working fine with the sim that came with the phone, until yesterday morning that is :confused:

Any suggestions?

Have you checked the settings on the phone to insure its not set to only use the Vodacom network... maybe by accident?

Nope, it was set to auto. I did try set it to manual, and it didn't pick up any network. Set it back to auto afterwards.

That is such a load of CRAP!!!! IF THE PHONE HAS A PROBLEM AND YOU TAKE IT BACK THERE IS A POLICY WITH MTN VODACOM AND OTHERS TO REPLACE!!!! IT AND NOT SEND IT BACK FOR REPAIRS!!!! It is unnacceptable that they send it back!!! they should replace it !!!!! I have mine now and have no problems... I'm with mtn and everything works perfectly. hsdpa, programs like mxit, GPS which works perfectly. 1) Your first problem... IS THAT YOU WENT TO NASHUA MOBILE!!!!!!!! MAY I JUST STATE THAT I HAVE NEVER RECIEVED A PHONE FROM NASHUA MOBILE THAT HASN'T HAD PROBLEMS!!! if you phone breaks you have to take it to NM, might just suck if you in another town and let's just say your gps isn't working... Then you can find the damn place!!! If your'e with mtn or any ACTUAL service provider you will find one on almost any street corner!! 2) Nashua mobile still works through mtn, vodacom, etc... well what does this tell you... they have to take the service provider cost into account... THEN put on a markup... Which means they are more expensive with SH*T service... not so smart to go there.

CHANGE YOUR CONTRACT AS SOON AS YOU CAN...

ARGH!!!!!!!!!! Stupid NM

~~~~~~~~~grrrrrrrrrrr~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning guys,
It is interesting to see the different opinions on the 6110. Other than this phone I don't know which phone to go for without paying in? (Currently on MyCall100 but will go to ProCall120 if needed)
I have spoken to a dealer in PTA, and he told me yesterday that he has one for me. I will confirm today before going there to pick it up. Then,
:sick::sick::sick::sick::sick::sick::sick:
we'll see.
I wonder what will happen if I get the phone and it causes problems, and they don't want to replace it? Maybe I get an N95 free? You never know.
By the way, I'm NOT with Nashua Mobile and also my company prefers employees to port to Autopage as it is a group company, yet I only hear bad things about their service. I'll stick with MTNSP for now. I think they're the best of the bad bunch! :)
Cheers guys!!
I hear there were problems with a batch of Nokia 6110 Navigators. It could be related to your problems.
There were batches of this phone that had quality issues. I received an email from MTN to say they were stopping advertising until the issues had been resolved.
I've got one and so far had only some strange issues.
However I did overhear an MTN salesman say that they had problems with another nokia phone whereby it wasn't working with MTN sim cards. Maybe a batch of the 6110 was the same. Try another MTN card in the phone, like a PAYG - smart money says it won't work either.
There can be only one!!! (sixty ONE ten navigator :))
Hi everybody,
:D:D:D:D FLIPPIN' AWSOME PHONE & GPS!!!!! :D:D:D:D
There is not much more I can say about the phone. I have had it for about two weeks, and so far it is really cool. The navigation is quick, missing a turn and waiting for it to recalculate is blazingly quick. Much quick than Garmin's Quest.
Car charger is a must if you are going to be using navigation a lot. It chows battery life. (It does make sense though!!!)
ANYBODY know where the CR-48 cradle for this phone is available? (I even tried Nokia @ Vodaworld) The best I can do is the CR-39 (universal cradle), but I want the CR-48 as the charging pins are at the right place.
Cheers,
Tyrone
Hi everyone, The Nokia CR-48 only appears to be available from UK sources for approx. 30 to 40 UK Pounds, quite a whack in Rands! Can anyone confirm that the CR-48 ctually has charging pins positioned to make contact with the 6110 gold-plated pads next to the charger socket?
Thanks, John
Chris at Exactmall advised he can get me one for R399. Hopefully I will be able to place an order today.
